I just think that most teams always are looking to get the ball first and set the pace.

Some people have said that the rule was changed just this year so now you have the option to kick or receive to start the game, I always thought you had that option....

That just answered the question of what the rule is, it didn't answer the % question...

<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1">   So basically prior to this year you HAD to take the ball in the first half or else you would possibly not get it in the first or second half?

If that is true, I am curious what % of teams chose to get the ball in the first half or to defer this year? Anyone know that?

This is the first year the winning team could defer. Bears won something like 8 in a row this year and always deferred. A dominating defense would be smart to let the other team have the ball first.
