I saw a thread critical of a Ravens fan who said to bet Pittsburgh.

I was wondering if you would bet against your team?

I love Ohio State, went to scholl at OSU, but if there is a game I know they aren't going to cover or win, I am taking the otherside. Personally, I think if you can remove your bias, you can do extremely well with your team, as most probably know their team better than any other.

Jim Tressel makes $3.5M a year and causes me enough stress with Field Goal Jimmy's style of play. If I can make money, i am all about the Straight Cash Hommie.

Just relayed a story on another forum about how I once gave the late great Stu Ungar a CFB selection that he placed $50,000 on.

The game was Arizona over IOWA in Tuscon.

Personally had 770 to win 700 on the game..........Stu tipped me 1,000.

Sure, take the Eagels for example. If I'm a Eagles fan, then I take Arizona and the points all day!! If Eagles win, great, I'm happy. But Arizona can still cover the points and lose. If they win and beat my team, well at least I won some money.

You alway root for your team but this way, either your team wins or you get paid.

Now if I were a fan of the underdog like the Ravens fan, then I'd only bet on the Steelers if I can get the money line. The Steelers can still win and not cover the 6 points and you'd lose both so why bother.

Betting against your team really only works when your team is the favorite, that way you can take the dog and guarantee yourself either some cash, or your team winning. A win-win situation for any fan.

Consider it "hedging".

anyone who doesn't should not be gambling. if you honestly want to make money gambling you cant care about betting against teams you have emotional attachment to.

I always chuckle when I read that squares can't wager against "their team." These are some of the greatest wagering opportunities because a person is so close to the situation. Trust me, you won't have anything to do with the outcome of the game. Karma, bullshit!

I watched Stuey play high stakes golf on a couple of occasions(LV Country Club). He didn't enjoy it. :ohno:

Unless you are on team payroll no team is "your team" and if you are, betting on them is not only illegal and unethical, but will likely cost you perhaps the best career possible

If I have a real strong rooting interest in a game, that would not be swayed by a bet (very rarely), I'll be more likely to bet the opposite side just so either way I can't lose

Asked this same thing a long time ago. I can not bet against my team. It's sometimes hard enough to bet on the total.
