OK Computer experts , gotta an office 2007 question

i just bought a new lap top . installed office 2007 on it.

my desktop has office 2003 ( which i like better by the way )

here is the issue : i create a document in 2007 . i email the attachment to my desktop computer .

cant open it with 2003 ...

is their a way to do this ?

i dont want to download 2007 on my desktop . cause if i did , wouldnt it overwrite 2003 ?

just make sure when you save on the laptop, use save as and change file type

Office 2007 adds .docx, you can save as .doc and it will be fine.

Or just download the compatibility pak to your desktop. This will let you open files created in Office 2007.

Under the Save As menu there is an option to save as a Word 97-2003 compatible document.

The doc was created in Excel 07 and he's trying to open in in the 2003 version.

Newer versions means newer features. Hence the compatibility pack MS offers older version users.

How could the programmers of 03' know what advancements will be made 4 years later and factor that in?

Come on. This is the only version of MS Office that isn't backwards compatible. If you save a file in Excel 2003 it will open just fine in Excel 1.0. Yes, some of the newer features may be lost in translation, but the basic structure of the file (data, font, etc) will be fine.

This isn't an issue of programmers seeing into the future. It's an issue of programmers not realizing that people still use older versions of their software. Inexcusable.
