I live in Houston TX and have been wagering with bookmakerdotcom, this past year I did good and still do, I never withdraw because I dont really need the money, my account just keeps on growing :aktion033. BUT a friend of mine told me that betting offshore its illegal in Texas, how true is this? It makes no sense to me, but Ill like to know if my local banks (wellsfargo or chase) will give me a hard time when trying to deposit checks from bookmaker? Thanks.

My understanding is that in Texas you can get a gambling stamp, and they will leave you alone. Don't know if this is still true or not.

But you need to cash checks under $5000 at a time to avoid a flag.

Other than that, the banks dont care. And they really dont care about checks larger than $5000, except it must be reported

If you were wagering with someone in Texas it would be a state issue but you're not. Wagering out of state is a federal issue and so I would guess you need to check federal statutes to see if you're breaking the law. Wagering with a local bookmaker in Tx is a misdemeanor and punishable by a small fine. I don't know what the federal punishment would be because I don't know anyone personally that has been busted for wagering with an offshore book. :toast:

Judge,

I don't know if the tax stamp will keep you out of trouble but I do know of one local that gets one every year. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

When I do cash I would not mind reporting it, I want to do things the right way to stay out of trouble.

Federal issue sounds worst than state issue. But I mean if your offshore book signs you up and knows you are in the states, there must be a reason for that. If the book knows there can be issues they shouldnt even let you sign up in the first place, am I right?

I was one of the first in Texas or so the agents told me to get a stamp and this was many many years ago. Mine was a test case before they started really putting the heat on to get the stamps. I still don't feel completely out of harm's reach no matter what the federal's tell me. It is still a state issue and they can be very harrassing at times. It also depends on how many times they have gotten you before as far as whether there is any jail time even though it is a 3rd class misdemeanor. I would'd want too much money at this time with anyone. Pull half out and still find a good local. There are still a few good one's in Houston and there are some stiff's, but you find that anywhere. Talk to a friend.

This is crazy man. There has been one documented case in the entire United States of America of a guy being arrested for gambling offshore and they only arrested him because they thought he was a bookie. It was in North Dakota. 1 time out of millions of bettors throught the years offshore. They ended up fining him $500 for misdemeanor gambling.

Do you personally know anyone who has gotten busted for gambling offshore? It sounds like you do. Please elaborate as this would be very big news to every offshore forum on the net.

And what is the tax stamp about? Is this just a Texas thing or what? You buy tax stamps and then you don't have to report that you gambled on your tax return? This would be huge!

It would be a good idea to pull some money out before the SB. The processors will be flooded after the game.

Chase and Wells don't care if you deposit a check and I don't know where PO69 came up with number $5000, but that number is bullshit.

If anyone at the bank ask you where did you get the check "tell, them this is what your mom pays me for fucking her."

You have nothing to worry about. Checks are not an issue, cash would be your only concern and that does not apply here.
