Just curious what you guys thought... Let's kick it around

What percentage of coaches would you say know (or have at least peaked at) the spread in the games in which they are playing?
Break it down any way you want.... college/pro, by sport, etc... any way you want.
Also, any thoughts on as to why they would look at it?

In basketball I would think it would be one of the least things on their mind. I think with football probably the complete opposite. Being more of a gambling sport, I think it is natural for most people to take a look throught the week. One other major reason is the week between games, I think that would have a lot to do with it also. There just seems to be a build up to the game in football every week, where basketball is more of a daily grind. I also think CFB coaches have the whole "keeping the alumni happy" thing in the back of their mind also. So they are definetly the highest of the group, IMO.

Just for the sake of throwing numbers out there I would say 66% of NFL coaches know, 95%, CFB. Less then 20% of NBA and less then 5% of CBB.

You hear many coach speeches before or after games about using the lines as blackboard material to pump their teams up. Most cases obviously underdogs.

I like Ices' numbers but I think college basketball is much higher than 5%. Throw out there 20-25%.

Damn near 100% in football.......It is a good gauge/tool for the coaches to see their chances to.

I'd say over 50% too easily in hoops.

I'd agree with this. Even though there are a million games on the board each night, your team only plays ~2 times a week.. 1 more than football.
