I just joined today bc I wanted to participate in live betting or whatever... where do you go to join in on that? I was thinking there would be live betting for the Nadal match tonight... any tutorials would be great :)

Tennis tough, esp. at 4 am, no market would develop.

Matchbook lacks a lot of options:

No H1 of NBA or NCAABB

No H2, totals, or Moneylines of NCAABB

Overnight lines are there, but not good

No parlays or props ( except SB)

Even NBA H2 bets can be hard to get filled

It's a good out, but only for straight bets, and best a few hours before game starts.

I suggest making offers on games, instead of only just accepting others' offers.

I trust MB, but they are somewhat in decline because they are hard to fund.

You should have at least one other book, preferably a reduced vig book, like:

5Dimes
Betphoenix
Betonline
Betvegasvic

Be careful making bets/offers until you get the hang of it, doesn't take long to learn it. Try some small offers for small money to learn.

I agree, they can't lose.

However it would not look good to have -200 offered on both sides of everything, either. It might take up too much bandwidth ( or whatever you call it) ?

It's frustrating to not fill an NBA H2 total ( offering a better than Pinny line), but it happens to me, a lot !

Might get no real offers on some obscure college game on a Sat. I think its a combination of the above reasons.

More gamblers should participate in ingames at MB. 75% of the time i feel like it's me and like one other dude in there. Come on people get over to matchbook and show off your gambling knowledge in the ingames. Especially the people from the USA. I mean the sports gambling world has done a number on us in the past couple of years. You should all be over at matchbook and learning to bet ingames. It's a huge moneymaking opportunity if you know your stuff.

maybe I'm thinking of something different... when ROddick-Djokovic was going on, someone said that they set up a wager for Roddick to win very alte in the match and someone took it... I can't seem to find a place where I can do that tonight on the site. I guess I just don't really know how to use the site though.. I can only find futures for tennis.

If you're not in the USA, Betfair offers in-game betting on the tennis matches.

I follow the odds on occasion in the hopes that when Betfair opens up or somebody in the US market starts offering tennis in-game I'll have a clue as to what I'm doing.

I said that and you are correct. All you do is click on tennis and than on the right side you will see futures. Click on Atp Australian open 2009. Matchbook has the players listed still in the tourney currently. Matchbook leaves the futures for tennis up during the matches. During Wimbledon last year they had Nadal and Fed up and i can tell you that ingame was absolutely crazy with how nuts that match was.

oh ok, yeah I was wondering how that worked.. I thought the futures was only for picking who would win the tournament...

what do you mean? I live in the states and fund it with my Visa debit with no problems...payouts via a fedex check...the visa deposits go right through? How much easier can it get?

Neteller, for one, would make things a hell of a lot easier...but those days are gone.

Most people are unable to use their credit cards, or even debit cards to fund it. So what other options are there? They could buy prepaid cards which generally work, but most people don't realize this and because of the fees in addition to credit card fees, that becomes an expensive way to fund it (credit card fees are reimbursed in commission credits, but the fees to load the card aren't). Then there's bank wire, but for the recreational gambler, or anyone who deposits less than $1,000 the fees are too high. I've never done it myself but I've heard that because of all the intermediary banks it goes through, you lose money in fees along the way, so $1,000 may end up only being $950 by the time it gets to them.

So, two not so very good options for people in the US. Moneygram and/or Western Union would go a long way toward getting more US players, as would E-checks. It really surprises me that they don't allow either of these methods, especially since their sister company WSEX has been allowing e-checks for quite some time.

ah, I guess I've just been spoiled...I bank through wells fargo and now they just acquired wachovia, and my visa debit works fine at matchbook and the greek...and yeah, MB does charge you like 4.5% and refunds it in commission credits...but the reduced juice there still makes it a great place, IMHO...if my visa card didnt work there, then I probably wouldnt play there, cuz yeah, there arent many options if you through out my visa......i guess the point is: for those that can, open an account at wells fargo...dunno if the old wachovia customer's visa's will work or not...

Amen, anxietyattack!! That other dude you're going against is usually me!! You gamblers out there don't know what you're missing with the live betting over at MB! I purposely hold off on betting a big televised game prior to the start, just because I know I'm going to be playing it on the live market at MB (and I don't want to be biased towards staying on one particular side becuase of a bet I placed before it started).

I really don't understand why more people don't get into the live betting over at MB. It's really the best thing going these days. Fund MB through a book to book transfer if you have to. Better yet, fund WSEX (their sister book), which has more options, and then transfer from WSEX to MB. Easy as pie.

And to the poster looking to live bet the tennis match, try contacting MB about this request -- they'll occasionally accommodate a request for a live market for a specific event. (they've done it for golf and boxing in the past). They've got a good "live chat" feature, or write them an email. They'll respond and sometimes accommodate the request.

I justed posted this in another thread, but more appropriate here:

As a professional gambler with an interest in the stock market, I am intrigued with futures trading and its similarities with the live betting at World Sports Exchange. Automatic futures trading programs have long been available with the stock market. With the day-trading phenomenon I would imagine that they work, but I do not have any first hand experience. Many of the futures trading programs enable you to run mathematical equations such as a Monte Carlo system that can test various buy and sell strategies on historical prices. For me, what is fascinating is that all of these tools are now available for the wsex exchange (name withheld so as not to appear as a promotion). As a math guy, I understand the theory, but I am hoping there are some here who can provide their opinion.

I would assume that the actual exchange characteristics are similar between wsex and real futures trading - neither market is entirely predictable. As such, strategies are based on the movement of the contract price. I suppose that with historical prices you can test strategies such as "buy at $50, sell at $100 or $20", or "buy after a price drop of 20%". Whatever the system you think up, you would have a chance to test it on real data. I am sure that there isn't a "Holy Grail" of strategies, but probably hundreds with varying risk and profitability.

Based on the above, I am trying to find reasons why these would not work. If there are profitable systems out there, you will have the resources to find them. Can it be that there aren’t any profitable systems because of the unpredictable markets? I suppose, but if the wsex exchange is similar to real futures exchanges, and if these tools work in real futures trading, then they should work at wsex.

In any event, this seems very interesting. I am hoping to hear what others think.

the WSEX vig on contracts is probably too much to overcome ?

Even if some of you can do it, why share it ? You are beating WSEX not other players.

Do you want to kill it ?

See, that is what I am not sure of. The way I understand wsex is that at the start of the game, there is a bucket on each side that can hold about 50 contracts. For instance, if the price is $62, and there are 42 contracts already in the bucket- if I but in an order for ten, then 8 will get filled at $62, and the market price will go up to $63. I do understand that wsex is not like matchbook. wsex resets the price after every play, not a true exchange. By resetting the price the have the ability to encourage more action on one side if they are unbalanced. Because of this, I always assumed that wsex exposure was limited.
