EDIT: PROUD TO CALL MYSELF A FAN OF THE ARIZONA CARDINALS!
What a wild ride...
For most of the last 20 years I would have people in my own home state of Arizona laugh at me after they asked me who my favorite NFL team was.
Then the ride began. Finally. What us true 30K fans of this team had waited for all these years. Us fans who sweated are asses off in 100 temps every Sunday afternoon during football season only to watch loss after loss. Hoping someday things would turn around.
This year we finally turned the corner. Made the playoffs by crushing one of the weakest divisions in NFL history. Deservedly so, no respect came with winning the NFC West though. Especially after getting blown out in NE, Philly, and at home to the Vikings.
Attending the first round game agaist the Falcons was an amazing experience. My first taste of attending an NFL playoff game and it did not disappoint. The win the next week in Carolina? NOBODY saw it coming.
We couldnt beat Philly though right? The team that totally destroyed us on Thanksgiving night. The team of destiny. The team with the #1 defense in the NFC. 32-25 Cards!
Then on to Tampa. Personally, I had a great time. One of the best weekends of my life. If any of you have never seen the team you love play in the Super Bowl, I suggest you do it the next time your team makes it. It was just a sureal experience.
Tampa was a cool city. I really liked RJS. I even liked my seats from the LAST ROW. I didnt care. I was in the building. I was at the Super Bowl surrounded by the crazy Steeler Nation and I loved it.
I will never forget that 4th quarter. Words cant describe the highs and lows I went through in a matter of 15 minutes.
Im still devestated by the loss. But you know what? This was a great ride and I couldnt be more proud to be a Cards fan.
We are no longer a joke. It took 4 playoff games in 2009 to do it. But I think we finally gained the respect of the rest of NFL fans around the nation.
