Why do people say props are "sucker bets"?

I often find fairly soft lines at plus money. An over 1.5 total Field Goals at +120 between Florida and OSU a few years ago (winner) comes to mind among many others. :Guitarman

The thinking is that books would not offer them if the book didn't plan on making money from them... Maybe as a whole they are sucker bets but if you can beat them then you don't fall in the percentage that lose money on them.

I don't know, maybe I'm just blabbering.

they arent most books get beat on most props.... they offer them to stay competetive with other books(markets).....that is why such low limits they are willing to eat the losses to make sure the player stays there and wagers on "real" sports with them......consider it an "advertizing" expense

That's a shame, props can be very profitable to the book, of course that is if the book is willing to invest in a specialist...not just some kid who's too slow to move the "real" lines.

I agree, and that's why the juices on these are so high!! 30 cent lines and higher, tough to find anyone below that juice except Pinnacle maybe since they have such a hughe volume of active players

specialists get their asses kicked just like any book who copies them....they put up 150 props or so..........and sharp prop players get to pick and choose what to bet.........they dont have to bet all 150 of them........a prop specialist is good for all the books that copy the props because they dont have to pay him......not too hot for the home office.....but like i said AD EXPENSE is all it is

pinny takes 100 on most and cut you to 50 on some......they are no different than anyone else when it comes to a losing endeavour..hence no more horses at pinny or horse matchups at pinny....they got creamed

Steak had the correct answer...props also turn non gambling types into regular gamblers...

Its strictly advertising and something to get conversation going...

For ex...people love to bet props at sb parties...

They are beatable and that's why limits are so low.

Wiseguys middle/scalp props for tons of cash.

FH

I would say more wiseguys just want to be on the right side of props, and would even pass up middling opportunities when they become available.

The pro's hammering props on the Super Bowl aren't interested in middling...they want to WIN!

The Pro's always love the props because they usually quickly find mistakes. However there has never been a Super Bowl that I'm aware of where the big books lost $$ on their Super Bowl props. Big

$$ maker for the books ! Always has been and most likely always will be !

Props are great, you can scalp/middle/play SU and if you are smart it's not hard to win
