Points Assists Rebounds
Kobe 61 3 0

LeBron 55 11 10

LeBron's 11 assists led to at least 22 points on top of his 55 scored.
There is no comparison here.

Hands down Lebron's performance was better. 50/10/10 hasn't been down in over 30 years I believe. I gave Lebron a (<)< <><> and :toast: for that performance.

I think Lebron came into the game planning to out do Kobe. Kobe situation was just natural.

Kobe had a better FG percentage and was perfect from the free throw line. Just adding a couple things to factor in.

Not even close imo. LeBron James' performance was MUCH better. No comparison.

James is by far the best player in the league. Kobe is a distant second.

I think Kobe was better.....

mostly cause Lebron's performance felt too muc like he was trying to copy Kobe (or 1 up him)

If Kobe didn't drop 61 I don't think Lebron goes for 50+ and the triple double.

Kobe lit it up cause he had to (Bynum gone)

So you are saying you are judging the performance on your opinion of the
athlete's motivation, and not the actual performance?

:ohno:

It sure looked to me like the Cavs/Knicks game was neck and neck
the whole second half, and perhaps Lebron was actually trying to
win the game?

where is Jordan's?

If we're going to bring up other players' exploits against the
Knicks, nothing compares to Pete Maravich's 79 points, while
being guarded by 7-time all-defensive star Clyde Frazier.

As it ended, Pete had 68 points, more than any guard had ever scored in an NBA game. Only Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor had ever scored more. The line in the box score read: 26 of 43 from the floor, 16 of 19 from the line. From the distances recorded in the official running score, he would have had 79 if there had been a three-point line.

That's from Mark Kriegel's brilliant new book, "Pistol", a biography of the late floppy-socked genius whose life was as tormented as it was poetic, as constrained by family pull as it was free of earthly bonds. The particular game described came against the New York Knicks in 1977 (Pete played for the New Orleans Jazz), and he was guarded for most of the evening by Clyde Frazier, who had made the NBA's All Defensive team for seven consecutive years and is considered one of the great guard defenders of all time.
Didn't matter.

There were times when nothing mattered at all for Pete Maravich, when he was in a zone that was impenetrable and without reason.

Lebron didn't even get a triple double. 2 of those rebounds were jokes. Kobe's 61 wasn't forced or an attempt at one upmanship

Um. Please explain how a rebound is a joke? And why is it a joke
when it's counted under Lebron's stats but not someone else's
rebound stats?

How many rebounds did Kobe get. ====> 0

Umm no Lebron did have a triple double, joke rebounds or not.. but also look at the Knicks below .500 by five games.. when Jordan did it he was coming back from playing baseball and only 8 practices..
Might I mention there were good Knick players on the floor?? Plus one guy named Pat Riley?

Festering,

Great post.

The Pistol is almost like a ghost. When I hear about the greatest offensive players of all time, you never hear his name near the top. The guy was phenomal.

Dale Brown said it best when asked about Pete's scoring average. He said all you would have to do is be able to do is MAKE 15 3 pointers a game.

Pistol Pete is the best NCAA player of all time.
and in ten years of the NBA... easily one of the top 5 guards

LeBron is a good player, and I'm not saying Jordan is the best, but was the best player to watch thats for sure

People forget how great Pete was.

Players make headlines in college today if they score 30 or 40 points.
Pete *averaged* 44 points over his whole NCAA career, and
his shots have been charted - it's been shown that if there were
a 3-pt line, he would have *averaged* 57 points per game over his
whole college career.

Years later former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game Maravich played, taking into consideration all shots he took. The coach calculated that at the NCAA rule of a three-point line at 19-foot, 9-inches from the rim, Maravich would have averaged thirteen 3-point scores per game, which would have given the player a career average of 57 points per game.[citation needed]

Pete's NBA career was cut short because of injuries...

I didnt watch the game or even follow it....but I think from the beginning all they did was feed lebron so he could rack up points....

....i am aware that he got a triple double, but this reminds me of the day david robinson scored 800 points last game of the season to win the scoring title......if lebron or the admiral did this or tried to on a regular basis, then (<)<....but i don't like the timing.

....remember when that one guy needed a rebound for the triple double so he threw it on the opposite end backboard to sneak a reb? LOL

have great respect for you shdw...but your post just implies that LJ can do that on any given night, whenever he feels like it...only 9 points less but nearly +20 in the stats when it counts. lebron helped his team more, so i have to give the performance to him.
