Ok so I decided I wanted to make a bet the other day. Not knowing anything I googled free sports picks. Lots came up. I bet on a few, won some lost some and am about even. Now there is a few things I don't get the number one thing is a statement like below. What does that mean.
"25* on the Pistons" or " 25 Unit on the Pistons." What is a unit and how should I be betting these?
I know complete newbie, but I have got to start somewhere.

Welcome to the RX. As to your question, the use of * or "Unit" is either a rating (*) or the mutiple (25 times) the handicappers standard bet. Meaning if the handicapper is betting $10 per unit, a 25* or 25 unit bet would be $250. Now, having told you this, please be very, very careful when you read numbers like this, particularly on these forums. There are very, very few professionals on these forums. Most are amateurs. Accept face value only what any handicapper posts as units.
My recommendation is that you simply choose a flat bet amount that you are comfortable playing each game and stick to it as enjoyment. 38 years ago, I started betting $11 to make $10 and I was happy. Once again, I can't stress strongly enough not to follow handicappers blindly and bet what units they say. Just read the forums, take your time and get to know the various handicappers, think before you place a bet, but keep it small. Best of luck.
