No the biggest steal in history was by the boston bruins: Cam Neely for Barry Pederson. Harry Sinden should have been brought up on larceny charges for that one.

I was thinking the same thing krk. Abreu may be getting a little older, but he's only 34, I believe. He had very solid production last year, pretty consistent with past years.

Hitting in front of Vlad and Hunter, with Figgins on base, will be a good spot for Abreu, as I don't see his production dipping too much, if at all. His patience at the plate will help that lineup tremendously. $5 MM is a steal.

When you are dealing with the most powerful union in history, hard to see any labor cost is a steal. There have been fighters on some of the bigger UFC cards have only made $15k. I guess examples like that might be considered exploitation rather than a steal

Very good deal for the Angels. Poor defense and on the downside of his career. But 60 extra base hits, a lot of walks and zero injury history. You would think even the lowest payroll teams in desperate need of hitting could afford $8 million or so for that

It was reported at ones time the White Sox offered up 8 mil for one year. Still seems like less money then he deserves.

I think this deal is 5 million base with incentives to 8.

But still....this is a steal.

Personally, I'd count Pavano's stealing of 40m from the NYY as one of the biggest steals in sports history.##)

Being a Phillies fan, I have always like Bobby. At todays salaries, that is a steal getting him for 5 million a year. I know he is maybe on the downswing, but is still a very solid addition to any team. I hope he has a huge year.

All he does every season is put up 20/100/.300 with 20 SB's and 90 runs + scored.
It's automatic, put him in the middle of the lineup for 150 games, and that's the numbers you will get.

5 million is a bargain for those guaranteed numbers.

p.s. he is neither overrated no underrated defensivly.
He does have this mental thing with crashing into walls though.

Well, he's overrated defensively by the people that awarded him a Gold Glove .... :):)

Definitely a bargain for the Angels, but not really the big power bat they needed.
