Is it worth making a bet if you have a 1/2 point advantage?

Maybe I'm answering my own question here, but for the 1/2 point to be worth it would the vig have to be -102?

Im basic this off the principle I once heard that for every 1/2 point advantage you gain you increase the odds of your bet cashing by approximately 2%.

Maybe Im way off here but would like discuss.

This depends on the sport, what score you are talking about, the juice involved and maybe a couple of other factors. As an extreme half a point in soccer is huge certainly a great deal more than 2% while 1/2 a point in a Golden State total is most likely worth a bit less than 2%. You may try the Ganchrow calculators for some very good answers to your question.

1/2 point for NBA total is worth about 1.2%. For the sides it's about 2.0%. So the hook is worth about 5c on the total and 8c on the line. (e.g. over 200.0 @-105 is same as over 199.5 -110, -4.0 at -110 eq to -4.5 at -102)
