As an adult I would never skip work to attend a game by using a phony excuse but as I get older I regret one game I didn't think of something. I was living and working in Massachusetts in October of 1975 near Boston and had two tickets for game 6 of the 1975 World Series (Yep the Carlton Fisk game).

A regular customer of mine (I was a bartender in a very popular restaurant/lounge) gave them to me as a gift. The game was scheduled to be played on a Sat. night which I could not get off because it was our busiest night and I was head bartender. I was forced to sell the tickets to a customer and give the money to the original owner of the tickets who was a buyer for a chain of super markets (Stop and Shop) which is how he got them to begin with. Buyers for chains got all kinds of gifts from vendors.

The sad part is the the game was rained out Saturday and Sunday and was played on Monday night, my day off, hell the restaurant was closed on Monday.

I had to watch the greatest game in Red Sox history on TV even though only a few days earlier I had two tickets to that very game in my possesion. I still am not over it.

Natrually the guy who bought the tickets off me was in the bar first thing on Tuesday razzing me about what a great game I missed (the rat)...Claimed he just missed catching a foul ball.

It's been years, back when Shaq & Penny Hardaway ruled Orlando, and I would make up different excuses to leave early & make sure I got there on time.

I've used many and can't really pinpoint which one was the best.....lol
