When betting on basketball, is is better to take the extra half point or lower juice. If the spread is say +5 (-110) and you take +4.5 (+100), I would say the 1/2 point is better, because if the game lands on 5, you lose. But in situations where you couldn't lose but push, say the spread is +4.5 (-110) and you take +4 (+100), is it better to go with the lower juice?

almost everyone is going to lose more then they are covering the half point. Better to take the reduced juice, unless you feel that half point gives you a huge value ie 5 to 5.5.. so the team would need to win by 6, and in close games (if your expecting one), teams are usually capable of keeping it within two posessions.

It is better to take the reduced juice over the long run. You will be saving on all your wagers whereas the 1/2 point will only make a difference from time to time. JMO

Free half points aren't worth the bother to me, unless the book gives me them everyday, like they once did.

I'll take -105 shops, and Matchbook.

The answer is in the numbers. Can't really generalize an answer without specifics. From what you posted, you are asking whether the half point is worth those 10 cents. It varies some based on the game, the spread involved and also CBB v. NBA, but generally speaking, figure that a half point is worth roughly 7-8 cents. So for 10 cents, the reduced juice would generally be slightly better.

+5 -105 reduced juice is better than +5 1/2 -110 (which you would get with a free 1/2 point from Skybook for example)...

In your case below you seem to have two lines to choose from

+5 -110 either way versus

+ 4 1/2 even - 4 1/2 -120

these are both about the same long term...In the case you are describing I think you dont have true reduced juice (like -105 style pricing as an option) ..in your example you have 20 cent juice on two differet lines...

+5-105 is generally not going to be better than +5.5-110.

The difference with the half-point , only on Friday, or something, isn't worth the hassle of having the out, as opposed to -105, and Matchbook. The free half has low limits, anyways.

Not worth it, overall, IMO ! However if you like it, do it !

Reduced juice. Most I'd pay for a point is 5 cents. Bodog usually has dogs moved 1/2 a point for 5 cents, say +5 -115 while others have +4.5 -110.
