Texans near deal to send Rosenfels to Vikings

Minnesota would give up draft pick to land quarterback

By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2009 Houston Chronicle

Feb. 23, 2009, 12:19PM

The Texans and Minnesota are close to completing a trade that would send quarterback Sage Rosenfels to the Vikings, possibly for a fourth-round draft choice.
The Texans had no comment on the report.
This is the second year in a row in which the Vikings have been interested in acquiring Rosenfels as their starting quarterback. Rosenfels, who won six games in the last two seasons when replacing the injured Matt Schaub, is approaching the last year of his contract. If the trade is completed, the Vikings will want to extend Rosenfels' contract.
The Vikings have Tarvaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte on their roster. Jackson is a former second-round pick and Frerotte is a 14-year veteran.
Rosenfels, who grew up in Iowa and played at Iowa State, was hoping to be traded to the Vikings last year. Media reports said Minnesota offered a third-round draft choice, but the Texans wanted a second-round pick. Both teams denied an offer was made. The reason Rosenfels wants to be traded to the Vikings is that he would have a chance to start for a team that has Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor at running back and as has led the NFL in run defense for the last two years.
The additional draft choice would give the Texans eight selections in the draft on April 25-26. Their last three picks in the fourth round were tight end Owen Daniels, cornerback Fred Bennett and outside linebacker Xavier Adibi.
The Texans will be in the market for another veteran quarterback. Alex Brink was a seventh-round pick last year who spent the season on the practice squad. When Schaub was injured, the Texans signed Craig Nall for the remainder of the season.

Good luck, Sage. Perhaps this now opens the door for Vince Young to come to the Texans. One never knows.

I like this deal for the Vikes. Rosenfels is better then the guys they had last year and he is a good fit for that offense.

He would be a suitable backup. He could also be used in a Wildcat formation 5-10 plays a game. Dude is being misused in Tennessee.

This'll be good for Rosencopter.

His psyche was destroyed after 'the incident' and the fan base turned on him ridiculously after that. I winced every time he threw the ball.

A fourth round pick is pretty fair. I as a Texans fan, would have preferred the third that the Vikings offered last year, but them's the ropes.

Wrong! Wildcat football is a gimmicks for teams that cant move the ball and need silly tricks just to gain a couple of yards! (that and college football teams)

This is the NFL. It is totally absolutely ridiculous to expect the team with the best offensive line in the NFL to run a stupid wild cat offense. And yes i said they have the best offensive line in the game bar none! They bloked for the fattest RB in the league to a league leading number of tds during the regular season and kept the oldest QB in the league off his back more than any team in the league.

Only an idiot would run a wildcat offense with that offensive line.

Vince young is a total idiot and a bust! If you guys in houston could do the titans a favor and take his ass of the team, they woud probably sign TJ whoyomama and Haynesworth and win 2 back to back superbowls!

At least he's better than Frerotte and should provide some competition for the TJacker. Sage is better but Childress's man crush on Jackson may prevent him from starting.

Most fans in the NFL are fickle shallow minded drunks who cant think beyond their noses.

Truth of the matter is that Rose, is better than Matt. That whole rosencopter deal should be 80% blamed on the texans OC. Only an incredibly stupid OC could make such a dumb call at that point in the game! He should have run the ball. 20% of the blame goes to Sage because a QB is also supposed to be aware of game situation and time and know to take a knee instead of risking a stupid turn over.

I actually thought that Sage was surely going to Detriot (being that Jim Schwartz new HC or the lions and old DC of the titans, knew Sage pretty well and sage had carved up his defenses pretty well when the played)

I thought Jim Schwartz would make that play and give the lions 8 wins right of the bat by signing him.

IF the vikings get Rosenfelds, they will win 10 games easy.

BTW...VIKINGS FANS, SAY HELLO TO YOU NEW STARTING QB, (<)<

Sage Rosenfelds is much better than a large majority of Qbs in the league (he has just been afflicated with some of the worst play calling and play schemes in league.)

Let's hope that never happens.
