Claudio Vargas and Eric Milton are scheduled to pitch in the Dodgers' Cactus League opener Wednesday in Mesa, Ariz., against the Chicago Cubs. Randy Wolf, Jeff Weaver and Jonathan Broxton will pitch the next day in Scottsdale against the San Francisco Giants

Jeff Samardzija (starting) and Mitch Atkins are scheduled to pitch two innings each in the Cubs' Cactus League opener Wednesday against the Dodgers. Sean Marshall starts Thursday against the Brewers, and Ted Lilly gets his lone start Friday against the Rangers before heading off to the World Baseball Classic.

Manager Lou Piniella will try to get his regulars plenty of rest. Derrek Lee, Geovany Soto, Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot will play in the opener, with Milton Bradley, Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez and Reed Johnson getting into the lineup Thursday.
