RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A government official says imprisoned NFL star Michael Vick has been approved for release to home confinement.

Vick's lawyers have said they expected him to be moved any day into a halfway house in Newport News, Va. But the official says there's no bed space, so Vick could be released to his Hampton, Va. home as soon as May 21st.
The official has knowledge of the case but requested anonymity because the individual was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The official says Vick will be on electronic monitoring and will only be allowed to leave home for activities approved by his probation officer. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback is serving a 23-month sentence at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., for a dogfighting conspiracy.

Funny if this was You or Me......Don't think we would be getting Out of Jail.

I'm not a Vick supporter by any means, in fact, what he did was despicable. However, I really believe that if this was "you or me" we wouldn't have even gotten the sentence he received.

Just my opinion.

Ok, I'll buy that. You are more than likely Right.
This was a High Profile case because of Vick. But I still don't think he should be going to a halfway house.

Looks like he may land on another team before the beginning of next season......

He still has to be reinstated by the league. I'm wondering if the commish will feel all of the negative pub this will receive is worth it.

He almost has to though. Little killed a person, where's the outrage concerning that? Like him or hate him, Vick did his time.

He sounds like a perfect fit for the Raiders or the Cowboys.

animal cruelty laws are way too low all accross north america...

here in quebec we lack some basic laws to protect aniamls...

that being said, with the laws that are currently in place, Vick did receive a harsh punishment. Not harsh enough for his crimes IMO, but harsh based on what others have gotten for similar crimes.

Yeah, it's the animals fault he lost his job, money, and went to prison. Vick made a decision that he knew was illegal.

One can argue that perhaps the time given was excessive but to say he shouldn't have even gone is ridiculous. It's not like he was some kid who fought his dog with another friends dog. This was an elaborate operation that he knew was busted he would be in serious trouble.

I hope he's on welfare the rest of his life.

whether you are an animal/dog lover or not, vicks sentence was too harsh. in the end of the day, it's an animal. whether that sounds cold hearted or not that's my honest opinion and i don't think anyone should do more time for a crime against animals when crimes against human beings receive shorter sentences.

Well he did serve his time. Like it or not there's nothing stopping him from getting a job.

With that being said, I would not sign this guy.
1. He sucks as a QB.
2 With the economy the way it is I would not want the negative press.
3 The fans that he would attract I would not want at my stadium.

Also the NFL can and should still punish him for the illegal gambling aspect of the dog fighting ring. Lets face it without gambling involved there would be no dog fights. The NFL has the right to not let him back in just on that point.

Blame Vick, not the courts.
