Well this is big news. They won't need a QB in the draft.

Pioli already making his mark as the GM there.

Doesn't say what they gave up. But the Lions should have been in on that

I would assume its for a 2009 2nd rounder...and future picks...

so that would give the Pats a 1st rder...and 3 2nd rnders...and typically under the Belichick regime, they trade out of position to stock pile future picks...they may parlay this to having the entire 1st rnd selections in 2018 or something.

Now the Pats have the cap room to go after Peppers...

I'm not a Pats fan by any stretch, but as a football fan I'd like to see them get Peppers just because it would be such a tremendous wall of talent in that defensive front 7.

I will be curious to see what KC gave up. I'm assuming they will still have the #3 pick, cause frankly New England wouldn't want a pick that high in the draft anyways. I wouldn't be surprised if it was this years 2nd and next years 1st. If there isn't a 1st rounder involed somewhere than many other teams should be shot for not trying to trade for him.

By the way on the NFL network they just said it isn't official yet. They are saying Cassel will be traded but that there is now another team involved that he might go to insted. Tampa has 61 million and have been rumored to possibly be involved for Cassel.

Matt Cassel, whom the New England Patriots named as their franchise player in early February, has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Cassel has been informed he is being traded to the Chiefs, ESPN.com's John Clayton and ESPN's Michael Smith have confirmed.
The Boston Globe reported on its Web site that official paperwork had been filed with the NFL. The story was first reported by NFL.com.
Cassel had accepted the Patriots' non-exclusive franchise tender, guaranteeing the quarterback at least $14.65 million next season. Cassel faxed his acceptance to the Patriots, the NFL and the NFLPA, but the Patriots also needed to offer him the one-year contract.

The franchise tag's value is the average of the top five salaries for NFL players at a particular position.
Cassel finished 327 of 516 for 3,693 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
It would be the Chiefs' second acquisition of a major member of the Patriots' organization in as many days; the Chiefs traded for linebacker Mike Vrabel on Friday. It also was orchestrated by one as well -- Scott Pioli, the former Patriots vice president of player personnel who this year was hired as the Chiefs' general manager.

Bad move by Pats in my opinion. Would've kept the young guy instead of the older one.

As a Bronco fan, this is great news. MC nothing but a career back up who made the most out of being in the right place at the right time.

Pretty much assures the AFCW is a two team race for the foreseeable future.

SI.com reports that the Patriots have agreed to trade Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs for the 34th overall pick of the NFL Draft.

There are reports, however, that question whether the deal is going through. Cassel's contract demands and/or a third "mystery team" could change the terms, but the paperwork is reportedly ready.

The Pats made a decision to go with proven vet Brady and not spend over 29$M on the QB position in 2009 after which Cassell was a free agent anyway. No way they could let Brady go after what he has done.

Cassel completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Compare that to Chiefs starter Tyler Thigpen. Accuracy and decision making turned out to be big strong suits for Cassell as the year worn on last season. The Chiefs make as much sense as any team for him to go to.

Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel is part of the trade agreement with Cassel.

Lest anyone forget The Patriots are still Tom Brady's team - sink or swim.

If that turns out to be true that all it took was a 2nd round pick to get Cassel than the fans of many NFL teams should be disappinted with their franchise. As a Tampa Bay fan I can say I would have gladly given the #19 pick for Cassel. I'm not a big fan of given up early round draft picks but if you need a QB than you got to make that move. Cassel may or may not turn out to be a stud, but ask yourself this. If he was in this draft would he not go ahead of both highly rated Qb's. If all you had to do was give up 1 pick, not multiple picks than it is worth it IMO.

Way To Go Childbirth

Well the Vikes prove once again that they have THE worst Coach/Front office in the NFL. They have enough $$ and cap space to have easily swung this deal. I hope they move the fucking team, so I don't have to suffer thru anymore of this ineptitude!! All this talent down the shit shute. ^^:)

Your front office might be bad but they don't touch that of Oakland and Detroit. And my TB Bucs new management might be up there shortly unless they do something soon. In the last month we have overpaid Luke McCown, we cut Brooks, another LB and 2 WR's. and traded a 2nd and 5th rounder to Clevland for Winslow.

Wonder what will happen to Thigpen now, I thought he played pretty good at the end of the season.

Yeah, of course, no team would want a pick that high. What a weird statement.
