Horrendous news flowing in from Karachi that there have been attacks made on the Sri Lankan team while they were on their way to the stadium from the hotel. Grenades and kalashnikovs were used in the attack and atleast three players have been injured.
Injury Reports: There are unconfirmed reports about how many Lankan players have been injured, three are confirmed surely, Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera are the players who have been injured badly. They were rushed to the hospital immediately and there's no medical announcement yet on the extent of their injuries. Skipper Mahela is injured on the foot.
There're reports that one of the players has been hit on the chest, Mahela perhaps has taken a bullet on his leg. There are reports that a few others are down too, Ajantha Mendis and Kumar Sangakkara are the names that are coming out now. Both these men are also heard to be injured in these attacks.
And now we've a confirmation from the Spokesperson of the Sri Lankan team that 6 players are injured in these attacks and have been taken to the hospital immediately.
Pakistani television channels confirm that 5 policemen lost their lives in the whole episode. The gunmen were heavily equipped, rocket launchers, kalashnikovs and grenades have been found with them. No identity proof found yet.
The officials are still hiding reports on the status of the injuries that the Sri Lankan players have suffered. One of the players has taken a bullet on the chest and one of them has taken a bullet on the leg. And we have a news flowing in from Lahore that Sangakkara has been shot on the shoulder, ofcourse all these players have been hospitalised and are receiving the best medical attention possible.
Whole Episode: A Police official has now confirmed that there were 12 terrorists involved in this whole shameful episode. And as much as we have got to know, there was a white car which included 12 marked men, they first circled the area of the bus which was moving through the Liberty Market (only a 100 feet away from the ground), rocket attacks were made on the bus first which caused chaos in the area. Luckily enough both the rockets which were fired missed the team bus, both of them hit a nearby tower which caused the explosion. And after that, the terrorists got down to start their round of gunfire which caused heavy damage. Reportedly, there was police protection around the team bus but even they proved little in providing resilience. The round of firing went on till 20 minutes. All of this was reported by an eye-witness who saw the whole incident after there was commotion in that area.
After this whole incident, the Pakistan team was asked to stay back in their hotel which was beefed up with more security. The Lankan team has been safely taken to a secret location.

He also goes on to say that luckily the rockets they fired missed the bus, most of the injuries have been caused due to debris. The players were smart in this Now or never situation as they all dived to the floor to take cover. Paul Farbrace, one of the support staff members is also injured.

Pakistani authorities were providing helicopters to evacuate the Sri Lankan team, which announced they would return home immediately. "We are providing helicopters to evacuate the team from the ground to an air base from where they will leave," Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab province of which Lahore is the capital, told reporters. "We are going to catch these terrorists one way or the other," he said.
