i'll disagree just on the fact that he would have to play so long at such a high level. Possible? yes, but i think unlikely. you're right about the names Stockton passed. no one would have ever thought those numbers from him.

stockton averaged 10.5 assists per game over 19 seasons.

paul is averaging 9.8 assists per game in his 4th season.

Long fucking way to go...

Not quite as bad, but this reminds me of Choptalk's "Jay Bruce will have more career HR than Junior Griffey" thread.

It's Paul's fourth fucking season. Only a moron would "agree so easily".

To answer your question. My guess would be NO. If I were to make a betting line it would have to be at least 20-1.

One thing that really amazed me about that list was how mediocre many of those top assist guys were. It doesn't say a whole lot for that stat. You look at all time scoring leaders and rebounding leaders and they are all "all time greats." This list has guys like Mark Jackson nad Rod Strickland in the top 10. It's almost as if the assist tracking was changed in recent years giving current players higher numbers. Maybe they loosened up the standards sometime in the last couple decades?

If he gets a Karl Malone to dish to, maybe. Tyson Chandler/David West ain't gonna cut it.

I don't think he has a chance to break his Assists record, but I do think that Paul could make a run at the steals record. Paul's steals numbers are insane.
