One of my favorite things in music, is when current groups remake old songs...many time they fail in comparison, but often due to new technology, better recording ability, etc...the remakes will be every bit as good or ever surpass the originals in quality.....this thread is dedicated to remakes that were changed enough to be every bit as good or even better than the original.....

feel free to add any that you feel qualify as well...

Smash Mouth scored a big hit with their version of the old Monkey's hit "I'm a believer"....much better than the original...

christina aguilera and Missy Elliot gave a whole new modern twist to the 70's classic "Car Wash" (another movie theme song), but due to the high quality of CA's vocal ability, it worked....

this wasnt the only time that Christina Aguliera scored big with a remake......it would seem hard to improve on a #1 classic by the awesome singer Patti Labelle, but thats just what Christina Aguilera , Mya, Pink and L'il Kim did.....they remade the classic and scored a #1 hit that stayed at #1 for 4 weeks, surpassing the original....it was also the main hit on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, which was a huge seller....the video is classic as well.....( i do have to admit though, i'm a little jaded, as i am fascinated by Christina Aguilera....she is way too hot, and talented, and i cant help myself....my crush on her has been noted before, so i am not unbiased here..)

Uncle Cracker scored big with his remake of the Doby Gray classic "Drift Away"....he even infused parts of the original in the remake, which is always a classic move...

probably the most successful remake of all time, was when Whitney Houston took an innocent Dolly Parton love song, and turned it into one of the biggest selling singles of all time......it also helped turn an average movie into a classic for many people......probably, no remake has ever surpassed the original by such a wide margin...

back in the 80's while in high school i had a mad crush on Joan jett, and they were my favorite group.....she scored with 2 remakes, the first being "Crimson and Clover" an old Tommy James hit, and they put a whole new rock twist on it and scored a top 5 hit...

Later on, she remade the AC/DC classic "Dirty Deeds"...and while i'll admit her version might not be as good as the original, it is certainly a good song, and done from a female voice which gives it a whole new sound.....still was a success...
