The Oregonian's stories about the deals made to get an MLS franchise.

Sources at Portland City Hall have confirmed privately that MLS will award Portland an expansion franchise Friday, two days after Vancouver was given a team and one day after Seattle will make its debut in the top tier of United States soccer. League officials would not confirm that Portland has been given a team.

I am so excited. I can hardly contain myself. I can't believe we should be so lucky. Someone pinch me.

We have about 200 outspoken soccer fans. They are now being rewarded. The tax payer will likely foot the bill.

Prediction: they lose money the first year. They lose more money the second year. They continue to lose money but bring good cheer.

I was in Portland last weekend. Let me just say this: "Shit Hole"

Lots of empty store fronts. Roads falling to pieces. Some lame ass trolley thing running through the streets. Looked like a ghost town. Not sure MLS is going to catch on with all the tree huggers and bike riders in that town. Do you really need three foot wide lanes in the road for bike riders?

Tax payers listen up. You'll be footing the bill.

MLS is in Seattle where it will do well. Take a two hour drive and check it out. In several years your team will be going down the shitter.

Portland is a soccer town and they'll be well supported.

Sad but true.

I don't follow soccer for shit but some people around here are truly excited. I can't see this bringing much attention but wtf do I know..

Hell Blazer fans around here are fair weather fans so this soccer team better not suck or bye-bye in no time.
