Flores Decisions Herrera Over Ten Rounds

On the Jones vs. Sheika undercard at the Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida, unbeaten cruiserweight BJ Flores (23-0, 14KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over a game Jose Luis Herrera (16-6, 16KOs). The scores were 98-92, 99-91 and 99-91.
In the first two rounds, Flores used his boxing skills to circle around Herrera and fire shots above Herrera's lazy jab. Herrera became more active at the start of the third, throwing hard shots and forcing Flores back. Flores would begin to swell under his left eye from Herrera's left jab. Flores began to fire hard rights in the third minute of the third and had Herrera in trouble in the final ten seconds. The fourth was closer with both guys landing some heavy punches. Near the end of the fourth, a left hook from Flores rocked Herrera.
Herrera was working Flores' body during the fifth and landing good punches. Flores did better work during the sixth, throwing a stiff jab and throwing combinations to the body. Hererra slowed down a lot during the seventh. Flores would circle around him and lands punches from all angles. Flores continued to land punches during the eight but didn't put a lot of pressure on Herrera.
The two of them began to trade some punches in the ninth. Flores boxed the entire three minutes of the round. During the tenth and final round, Flores was well ahead on the cards and ran down the clock by boxing and not taking too many chances. In the final twenty seconds, both fighters rocked each other during a closing exchange. It was the first time Herrera lasted to the final bell. All of his previous fights were won or lost by knockout.
