I have recently begun to sporadically bet on sports and I have a newbie question regarding money lines. I was looking at the money lines on pinnacle sports for the NHL and found that for the upcoming flyers/devils game the money line was -105 for both teams but the spread was -1.5 for the flyers and +1.5 for the devils. I don't understand how the money line can be identical for both teams if there is a spread. If I wanted to bet on the flyers why would I bet the spread when I could bet the money line? Thanks for the help and sorry if this is a stupid question.
Welcome to the RX. What you are describing is the spread line but have it confused with the moneyline. The current spread line at Pinnacle is shown below:
New Jersey +0.5 (-164)
Philadelphia -0.5 (+154)
With the spread line if you take the Flyers you must win by 1 goal to win your wager and get +154 for laying 100.
The current moneyline at Pinnacle is shown below:
New Jersey -104
Philadelphia -106
The is no spread involved here. With the moneyline, if you take the Flyers all you need to do is have them win the game and get +100 for laying 106.
Hope that helps and best of luck.
