I know some of you "Young Guns" won't remember the Show. But most likely Heard of the Show, that Changed TV.

All in the Family is an American situation comedy that was originally broadcast on the CBS television network from January 12, 1971 to April 8, 1979. In September 1979, the show was revamped, and given a new title, Archie Bunker's Place. This version of the sitcom lasted another four years, ending its run in 1983.

The show ranked #1 in the yearly Nielsen ratings from 1971 to 1976. As of 2008, The Cosby Show has been the only other show to top the ratings for at least five consecutive seasons. TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Show of All Time ranked All in the Family as #4. Bravo also named the show's protagonist, Archie Bunker, TV's greatest character of all time

Great show. The show also had his neighbor George Jefferson on it and they then made the sitcom The Jeffersons.

one of the funniest episodes they ever had......archie and maude were perfect opposites......the gossip says that Norman Lear was a good friend of Bea Arthur's, and asked her to fly to hollywood to do this one episode...he promised her it would be worth her while, and if it didnt turn out good, he would get someone else...she did it, and after just airing the one episode, the CBS execs told Norman Lear to give her her own show...and the next year she was on the air....after one 30 minute stint...pretty impressive

One of the alltime best sitcoms. We'll never see a character as controversial as Archie Bunker again in today's politically correct world.

I always cracked up when Archie would ask Lionel wanted he wanted to do for a profession. And lionel would always respond with a jive accent "I wants to be an Electricaall Enguneer."

The man who played Barney Hefner, Archie's pal, was the same man who played in numerous Andy Griffith episodes. In one Andy Griffith episode he was an Army Recruiter, in another he was a produce truck driver, and in another he was a convict. Talk about a well rounded character actor. Still don't know the mans name.

Allan Melvin (February 18, 1923 - January 17, 2008<SUP class=reference id=cite_ref-0>[1]</SUP>) was an American character actor who appeared in several television shows and may be best remembered for his roles as Sam the Butcher, Alice's boyfriend on The Brady Bunch, and Barney Hefner, Archie Bunker's best friend on All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place.

In the 1960s, Melvin played Staff Sergeant Charley Hacker who was Sergeant Vince Carter's rival for four seasons on Gomer Pyle, USMC. He also made a few appearances[4] on the Dick Van Dyke Show. He also provided the voices of cartoon character Magilla Gorilla, the lion Drooper on The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, and Bluto on The All-New Popeye Hour. Melvin also made eight guest appearances on The Andy Griffith Show in eight different roles, usually as heavies.

The Johnny On The Spot award today goes to Betalsports. Allan Melvin was Sam the Butcher on The Brady Bunch. I had completely forgot about that. When I was growing up, my grandmother would not let me watch All in The Family for a long time because it was "Sinful" in her eyes. When I got to high school, I could watch the reruns. I think the combination of the cast and writers brought out the best of each other and that was why is was so successful along with Archie's ignorant thoughts and comments many Americans at that time were thinking and too embarassed to say aloud.

that wasnt George, that was his brother Henry.....you notice he just calls him Jefferson, not george.....Hemsley couldnt do the show til the following season, so they just wrote the character in, and waited til Hemsley could get to hollywood.....they used this other guy to play his brother, to have a "black male advisary" for Archie.......once they went to the Jeffersons, you only heard of Henry a couple of times...they were on AITF together for one episode as well....
