The University of Connecticut violated NCAA rules while recruiting guard Nate Miles, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Miles, who never played for the Huskies, received lodging, transportation, meals at restaurants and was represented by Josh Nochimson — an agent formerly registered with the NBA and a former Connecticut student manager — between 2006 and 2008, multiple sources told the website. A Huskies assistant coach said he told Nochimson that the team was recruiting Miles and he knew Miles and Nochimson talked.

Nochimson would have been considered a representative of the school's athletic interests and therefore barred by NCAA rules from having any contact with Miles or from providing him with anything of value.

UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway and coach Jim Calhoun declined comment.
Miles was expelled from Connecticut in 2008 after violating a restraining order brought by a female student. He is currently attending the College of Southern Idaho. Miles was a 20-year-old freshman when he gained his eligibility and enrolled at Connecticut in the summer of 2008. In September, the restraining order was issued against him. After he violated that, he was expelled Oct. 2, before the basketball team held its first official practice of the year.

The Connecticut basketball staff was in constant contact with Nochimson for about two years leading up to, during and after Miles' recruitment. Five coaches, including Calhoun, traded at least 1,565 phone and text communications with Nochimson, according to records that Yahoo! Sports obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. The documents were requested in October and received two weeks ago. The number of calls to Miles and his inner circle also constitute a violation of NCAA rules that limit the amount of contact with recruits.
During the recruitment, Nochimson is accused of providing Miles with lodging, food, and making basketball-related contacts on his behalf. Since his expulsion, the UConn coaching staff has continued recruiting Miles, College of Southern Idaho coach Steve Gosar told Yahoo! He would be eligible to play for the Huskies in 2009-10.
