Chicago will welcome a scout team this week from the International Olympic Committee to inspect the city ahead of a final vote this fall on which city will win the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Organizers with the Chicago 2016 organizing committee say 1,500 people are playing some role in the visit, which runs Thursday through April 8. When the IOC team arrives at Soldier Field, children will be playing soccer. When they go to Lincoln Park, they might not see the yet-to-be-built tennis center, but they will see people playing tennis.
The IOC is also going to see something that's been part of the landscape here for as long as anyone can remember: protests. Citizens groups like "No Games Chicago" and disgruntled police union officials, angry over pay, plan to make their voices heard.
