Some Yankee Stadium Seats Are Overpriced, Hal Steinbrenner Says

By Mason Levinson
April 2 (Bloomberg) -- Some of the seats at the New York Yankees’ new $1.5 billion ballpark may be overpriced because of the recession, managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said.
“If anybody in any business had known where this economy was going to go, they would have done things differently,” Steinbrenner said at a news conference today as the team unveiled the new Yankee Stadium to fans for a team workout. “There’s no doubt small amounts of our tickets might be overpriced. We’re continuing to look into that.”

Isn't every Major sports tickets over priced? I went to a Milwuakee Bucks game this year for free in the nose bleeds and the value on the ticket was $51. That is absurd for a sport that imo is only fun to watch during the playoffs. Major league Sports Entertainment is way too expensive for where our economy is at right now. It is only a matter of time before some players will have to give money back to keep the teams afloat. The sports bubble will burst soon enough just like the housing market did.

7 NBA teams asked the NBA for 10 mil because they were losing so much money. The kings will probably lose $20 mil this season. that's not good. I am a huge sports fan, but these prices and salaries are way too high for the times and something has to give.

BOL this season

100% agree. My own thoughts, NBA is heading toward a NHL destiny and its sad. Minor League baseball is getting the right idea with having promotions and its not about the GAME, but simply an affordable FAMILY event. With the ticket prices so high, how can a FAMILY afford to go to a game. We're talking 150 bucks for tickets, food, and soft drinks (yeah, I said "soft drinks"). Just my opinion.......

$1250 a game for the Yankees game?? That is insane. For that kind of money there should at least be some kind of release for guys (maybe between innings) , some steak, some lobster, and a helicopter ride into the ballpark

I think beer is now 8 dollars a pop.
I used to go 20 times a season, for 14 dollars a game upstairs behind the plate.
I'll go once this year to check out the new park, and that's it.

p.s. Hank and Hal make George look like a mensa member, dimensia and all.
It gets harder and harder to love my team.

I was at a game this past year. 2nd row just past 1B, about even with where Giambi was standing. The guy next to me owned the 4 seats he and his friends were sitting in. $200 each per game, total $800 for the 4 seats. I asked himif he kept his seats in the new stadium and he said 'no' that they were too expensive. I asked politely how much the new seats were going for. He said $1250. I did the math quick in my head and responded that 50% markup from $800 to 1250 is pretty steep but I think they will get it. He said 'no, you don't understand. It is now $1250 PER SEAT'. His ticket prices would have gone from $800 per game to $5000 PER GAME. :>(

What a joke.....instead we can wait till they play the Royals on the road, take a 1st class flight to K.C., stay in a 5 star hotel, eat crushed lobster and filet mignon, bathe in a bottle of Cristal, have a threesome with some prime K.C. ass, and sit front row to watch the Yankees...

They should try winning first. Just because they add a few big names (like every year) they think they have a right to do that? No way. Come to Toronto, where you can get tickets for every game for 12$ (they are always available, and they even have to close a bunch of those sections off, because they cannot sell). If you want seats along the baseline, they are only 24$. I think its worth making the trip.
Last year i had season tickets for 95$ (per seat, i had 2 seats so 190$)

i'm a lifelong yankee fan. when i started going to games. box seats were $4. also, the yanks drew an avg. of 15k for games (less during weekdays, maybe 20k on a good sunday game). they sucked and the old stadium, during the late 60s and early 70s was a real depressing place. btw, nyc economy sucked then also, nearly went banckrupt, as i recall.100k was the benchmark of a big money contract.
anyway, the game today is barely recognizable. if people are not willing to pay the big bucks for prime tickets, then the price will come down. time will tell. but i will go to the new stadium. how can i not??? i just checked the price for outfield loge on stubhub for friday 5-1 vs angels. like 75-100 per, not so unaffordable to get a look at the new yankee stadium. i'm there. and it wont cost 5k. i think real fans like me will find a way.
i will also pay a little more to check out citi field, on a nice day with the family, even if i sit in the outfield. it will be fun to enjoy a new stadium, root against the mets, have a few beers with friends and family, am i wrong? i think some of you guys will calm down and spend the extra cash, as the season goes on.jmo.:drink:

I hear ya Doc.
I used to pay 3 bucks to watch Jerry Kenny boot balls like Pele, and watch Horace Clark throw balls into the second deck from second base.
If I wanted a box by the dugout, I slipped the usher a deuce.

I'm in Ct. now, My wife and I are out 50 bucks just to get to NYC before I even get through the doors.

I can't do 20 games anymore, I'm not sure I can do eight.

you are completely missing the point.

MOST PEOPLE CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY TO GO SEE A GAME FOR 3 HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT.

FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR ALL LOW BALL PRICES:
4 TICKETS= 80$
4 DRINKS= 20$
4 FOOD ITEMS= 20$

THATS $120 PER GAME ON THE VERY LOW END.YES PEOPLE WILL GO BUT MUCH LESS. IT WILL BECOME A ONCE A MONTH THING INSTEAD OF ONCE A WEEK THING.

That's cheap. I spent over $70 at the movies on Friday night for me, my wife, my 2 kids and one of their friends. @) 5 people in total for a crappy movie about aliens and monsters. But, hey, at least it was in 3D. :think2:
