Official Statement from Bally's:
Effective March 31, 2009, the Bally's Sportsbook will temporarily close for the season. The management team at Bally's Las Vegas anticipates a tentative re-opening date of early Fall 2009.
Fewer than 10 employees were affected by the temporary closure.
During the closure, Harrah's Entertainment's will continue to offer 7 full-service Sports Book locations in Las Vegas, including Paris Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas, Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Harrah's Las Vegas, Imperial Palace and Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon.
Due to the close proximity of the Paris Sports Book, we anticipate that guests will not be inconvenienced and will continue to receive the same high level of service.

What about the cocktails, valet's, buffet servers, and other workers that are affected by those that don't come in this Monday night and other times?

A favorite among sports book regulars is beating the odds: After being shut down for nearly five months, Bally's sports book has re-opened.
Bally's operates two sports books; one at the Bally's Hotel-Casino and a second inside the Paris Las Vegas.
With fewer people placing bets, it seemed to make sense to streamline. But Wednesday night, all bets are now on at the Las Vegas Bally's Sports Book, and it's not just employees who are happy that the move was only temporary.
"We're regulars here and live in Vegas," says Karen Minoff. "We love to come down to Bally's."
Last March, the book was closed; Billy Zimmer, Bally's Vice President of Casino Operations, says guests were re-directed to the sports book next door at the Paris.
But now, after various renovations - including a new VIP room - the book at Bally's is now open for business. And guests are taking notice.
"The thing about Bally's is that it has so much space out here - scoreboards, TVs. It's laid out fantastic," says John Kaplan.
When the sports book was closed last March, Bally's tried to find its workers temporary employment. But now that the book has re-opened, those nine employees were given the opportunity to come back.
"Almost everybody was brought back that wanted to come back," says Zimmer. "We were really able to accommodate those people."
Many guests see the re-opening as a positive sign - not just because they enjoy the book - but because it could mean our local economy is on the mend.
"I'm hoping things are turning the right direction," says Jim Kolbek. "The whole economy is down so the first place hit is going to be a place like this, where people need extra money to come here. Hopefully we go home with a little bit of our money."
Bally's sports book seats roughly 285 people and has 12 betting windows. Officials add that they are looking forward to the upcoming football season.
Renovations to Bally's sports book included a 100 guest VIP lounge, the installation of television screens into the backs of plush seats, and overhead flatscreens.
