So I went and bought a new mattress about a month ago..$1250...Europillowtop something or other with springs and foam.

Loved it the first week, then decided it was too soft, was nesting and giving me worse back aches than the old one i had had for 10plus years.

The store allowed 30 days for returns/exchanged so I spent ANOTHER $1600 to upgrade to a memory foam type mattress which was delivered today. Total cost is now $2850.

I am not loving paying that much for a mattress, but figured since I have back issues it was a good investment. Problem is, if this one doesn't work I can now only get store credit....which means either spending up again(DO NOT want to do), or going to a cheaper one and having to buy another mattress (which I don't need) or a bunch of sheets or pillows or something with the rest of the store credit. And it's a mattress store so it's not like I can use it for appliances or anything else.

I just don't know how people can decide in the store what will feel good over the long term. I would feel stupid returning another one, but I guess this happens all the time. I loved the one I got today when I was in the store, but I am already thinking it may be TOO firm for me.

Anyone had a similar experience? I know plenty of people who are happy with their $500 mattresses..wish I could find one of those. I've never slept on a foam mattress before so maybe this one will just take some getting used to.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I think you need to wait until your monthly visitor is finished,,, then Go back to the store, and with a Clear mind make your selection.

Great thread Buster thanks.

...And I did wait 30 days before I took the first one back. Monthly visitor was not present at either purchase....well maybe the last one.. don't remember...Anyway, now I'm stuck with store credit if this doesn't work.

A lot of people on that other thread mentioned Stearns and Foster and everyone in my family has one of theirs...but the model they have (and I do love it) is $4500 for the Queen. I really didn't like spending $2800...but would probably just buy the S&F at this point*(what's ANOTHER $1700? )sigh.... but the store doesn't carry that brand so I'm kind of stuck with what they offer.

I never thought buying a mattress would be so complicated.

I was just going to say S & F, not sure how much it cost. But I have a King and Love that Mattress.

Which one? The one I was considering is the "Golden Elegance." The queen is about $4500...a lot of money but that thing is heavenly....

The whole mattress business is just about as shady as the used car business.

I cant believe how many mattresses my wife and I have gone through. We have paid anywhere from $300 for a set to $3000. Doesnt matter.

They all wear out in a couple of years.

ThanksGravy, I'm locked into the place I already bought from...can only get store credit now....but maybe I can read some reviews or something that I am sure will be helpful if this one ends up not working.

That's what I am beginning to think WC. Have you guys ever had a Tempurpedic/memory foam one? This one I just bought has a 20 year warranty.

Yes. We have.

It was great for the first 3 weeks, then killed my back after that.

Was fortunate enough to trade it in for a credit.

We have averaged a new mattress set every 2 years for the past 12.

Sealy. Simmons Beauty Rest. Tempurpedic. Sterns and Foster.

The most expensive was the Sterns and that went bad in less than a year.

We bought a generic store brand 2 years ago for $800 and it has held up just as good or better than any of the above mentioned.
