The Los Angeles Dodgers opens the season on the road at San Diego. The Dodgers finished
the last season 84-78 winning the the NL West and winning their NLDS playoff series
vs. the Chicago Cubs, but eventually losing to the World Series Champions Philadelphia
Phillies. The Padres 63-99 last season was in the basement in the NL West, and things
don`t look that bright this season.
Los Angeles will send Hiroki Koroda (R) 11-10 ; 3.59 era to the mound vs. the
Padres ace Jake Peavy (R) 10-11; 3.59 era. The Dodgers last season defeated the
San Diego 7 out 0f 10 games, Peavy has been on fire vs. L.A., winning his last 5
starts including 4 wins in 2008. Kuroda was 2-1 and one no-decision last vs.
the Padres.
As one of my betting partners told me years ago, I will take a good batting team vs. a
good pitcher anyday, reason being their only a handful of major league pitchers
can sutdown a team without run support. San Diego will be at the bottom of the
standings at years end and will most likely be having a fire sale before the all-star break.
On the other hand the Dodgers will have one the best lineups in the National League.
With Manny Ramirez, Rafael Furcal, Orlando Hudson, Russell Martin, Matt Kemp
and James Loney, Joe Torre will have the NL's best lineup each night.
