<!-- -->Associated Press - April 12, 2009 10:14 PM ET
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man has pleaded guilty to embezzling $644,000 from the Desert Diamond Casino.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said 31-year-old Adam Vega worked as a slot floor person.
A U.S. Attorney's Office spokeswoman said the theft is the largest by a casino employee since casinos became legal in Arizona.
Vega entered the plea Friday in Tucson.
Authorities said Vega stole the money from the casino by "fraudulently" obtaining the passwords of supervisors and generating fraudulent jackpot override tickets.
Vega will be sentenced June 19.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million in the casino theft. Vega also pleaded guilty to a tax evasion charge and faces up to five years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Man sentenced for theft from Nebraska casino
Associated Press - January 27, 2011 7:15 PM ET
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a former employee of a casino owned by the Santee Sioux Tribe in northeast Nebraska has been sentenced to a year in prison for stealing from the casino's slot machines.
U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Bianco White, of Niobrara (nigh-oh-BRAR'-ah) was sentenced Wednesday on a theft conviction. He was ordered to pay over $13,000 in restitution to the Ohiya (oh-HEE'-ah) Casino and serve three years supervised released.
Gilg says 1 of White's duties was to remove money and operating slips from the slot machines, an operation that required at least four people. In June 2008, management began noticing discrepancies in the reports. Gilg says during an investigation, White was seen on video surveillance footage making an unauthorized drop from a slot machine by himself.
