My wife did it. She worked while finishing her undergrad and the quit school while going o grad school.

It was tough, but in May she will have her Master's and it has been worth it for sure.

i don't think that's going to be such a good idea... you have 40k for school loan and you want to go to school again??? so by the time you finish this time you will have how much of school loan?? education is good thing to get but is it goning be really worth it for you to rack up your school loan??

Owing 40K in student loans would be a great reason to go back to school

Going "back to school" will certainly increase your level of education and perhaps put you in a spot three to five years from now to make a higher income than you do presently.

However, it will also mean a reduction in your current income during those three to five years.

So the answer to your conundrum is based on what your primary underlying motivation is for "going back to school".

If it's to increase your income potential, you'll likely not realize a net benefit for at least eight to ten years once you factor in the lost income during the next few years of school.

However, if it's to increase your options for steady employment, it might be a plus. Though you're again not going to receive any reward for your move for at least five or more years.

Another option to look into is going to school part time while you
work. This way you are not digging a bigger hole financially than
you already have.

I worked towards an MBA part-time for a while, and then decided
I wanted an MS instead, and did that part time also.

It takes longer, but you keep the income flow.

I didn't Quit because well I needed money to live but I went to school evenings and weekends for Media Relations. It was hard but worth it.

I think you should first take a refresher course in English 101.

don't quit. Go Part time and summer school.
I'm 29 and started MBA program in August 07, and I have two classes left, and will be finished in the same time as FT....and debt free.
-There are lots of students in grad school trying to do your plan...stay in school to avoid the crappy economy. There is going to be a gigantar influx of talented peeps going to grad school starting next fall...and that will be your competition in the future.

When it might not be for everyone, my decision to go back 11 years ago was the smartest thing I've ever done.

What profession are you in?

On average, college is worth an additional $1M lifetime.

Whether or not you learn anything practical in college, who knows. Personal Health, Music Appreciation, Foods & Nutrition. I'm certainly not applying that stuff to my career.

But for the vast majority of people, college is worth the $$$.

If nothing else, it grants you membership in the club. The club of corporations and large organizations. Without that college diploma, they won't even consider you for employment.

Graduating from college proves that you can complete a long-term task. You can play "the game", you can work towards a goal. In other words, you're not going to skip town after 3 months.

Of course, that life isn't for everybody. Working in a cubicle sucks. But the money & benefits are good.

What did DeNiro say in Heat?

"A normal life? What's that? Fucking barbecues and baseball games?"
