Beckett suspended for 6 games

for Sunday's incident where he threw the ball over Abreu's head after a time out was called. I guess this amounts to missing one start, but I'm sure he will appeal.

Throwing at head

Baseball is finally taking a serious look at this. Missing accurately is one thing. Moving someone off the plate is another. Throwing at someone's head has no place in baseball.

Here's what Joe West, the lead umpire in that game had to say about the incident:

Joe West, the umpire who called the game, said this:

“He took too long delivering the ball,” said crew chief Joe West. “Abreu called time, which is normal. Then Beckett, in the middle of throwing the ball, threw the ball. They should throw the ball, rather than risk an injury.

“Did he throw it up and in? Yeah. Do we believe he threw it at Abreu? No. Would we have warned him had both benches not emptied? Probably not, but because both benches emptied, we did issue a warning,” explained West.

This whole incident would have been put to rest if Bob Watson, notorious Yankee ass fuck, weren't the one making these decisions.

If I'm the umpire and my higher up goes completely against what I say and tacks on even stricter penalties, I'd definitely pretty angered by it.

Joe West aside - Keep pissing Beckett off, make him even hungrier for us.

He will win the Cy Young this year. You heard it here first.

Chin music is getting the ball under the chin for a message. Throwing at somone's head is more like criminal. If the batter charges the mound because of this, throws a bat, cleats first, then he is wrong. Explain that to me. If I get a bullet intentionally thrown at my head, I will do whatever I feel necessary to retaliate and that includes criminal processing.

Abreu never stepped out of the box, he never raised his hand to call time. Beckett's supposed to completely stop his wind up halfway through it when all Abreu did was mutter "time" under his breath?

The pitcher has too much leeway..There have been too many batters suffering permanent damage with no recourse but to stand there with no defense.

I think the Roger Clemens roid rage induced bat throwing incident against Piazza in the WS was far worse. Unless I'm mistaken, he was never suspended (or thrown out of the game).

He got suspended because he came off the mound went to the batters box after Abreu. If he would of stayed on the mound, he wouldn't have been suspended. I watched the play and I knew he was going to get suspended because he was the instigator.

My control is great..

I just threw a mistake pitch at his head, well it wasn't at his head it was over it, no it was behind nor near it, or sort of close, but not at it, 6 games only means 1 start.

Beckett knew exactly what he was doing.
If I was Selig I would have given him 20 games.
DJax is right, this world has gotten toooooo soft, six games is a joke, 20 games is the proper punishment.
