Nice choke by Pierce to miss the free throw with ~1 sec on the
clock at the end of regulation.

No friggen excuse for that.

A rimmed out free throw is no choke...to get a better definition, please go ask Ray Ray Allen about it.

Besides a good finals performance against the Lakers...he's played with absolutely no swagger in the playoffs. Yet he gets a free pass around these parts. Ray Allen got SHUT DOWN by Wally Szerbiak last season in the playoffs. Now he's missing wide open shots...and bricking contested shots...not something common to the 'best shooter in the game.' He didn't even need someone shutting him down today...he shut out himself.

On topic...Rose is fantastic. Love his demeanor as well. No doubt he will continue to succeed.

A rimmed out free throw is no choke? Are you high on crack?

He's the MVP from last year's NBA Finals, and supposed to be one of the
best players in the league.

I'm one of the biggest Celtics fan out there, and have watched almost
every Celtic playoff game since the Larry Bird era, that would be almost 30
years.

For Paul Pierce to miss a free throw with ~1 second left in a tied game is
the epitome of a choke.

All Boston has to do is contain Rose and they should be able to win

Yes...I'm high on crack. So, Mr Biggest Celtics fan in the history Celticville...your ready to throw the choke label on The Truth for a fraction of an inch, rimmed out free throw? Should he have hit it? Of course. Is it possible to have a perfectly tossed free throw rim out? Yes. Hence why we don't have any 100% free throw shooters in the game.

Paul Pierce was something like 7-7 in potential <game winning> free throws before that. I don't think his balls shriveled up, and tucked themselves in his throat before he had his second toss. It rimmed out. I give him a pass here.

Throw the choke label on Ray Ray. He was pitiful & choke worthy in every aspect of life between 12:30pm & 3:30pm time.

Um... Bzzzzt. You can almost fit two basketballs inside the rim
at the same time.

Please explain how a "perfectly tossed free throw" can rim out.

I'm not saying that Ray Allen didn't have an atrocious game, that
is a straw-man. I'm saying Paul Pierce choked his ass off, and I
stand by it 100%.

I'm anxiously awaiting your reply about the perfectly tossed
free throw.

literal - yes you are correct.

I will omit the word perfect.

and substitute the word 'well,' my friend.

And all i'm saying is...I will throw the choke label on Mr. Allen w/out any doubt, rather than Pierce. If Allen played with simply 1/2 testicle rather than none at all...the Celtics win that game. He's been that way most of his playoff games with the Celtics...and he gets a free pass & nobody presses the issue.

Ray had some bad games at the beginning of the playoffs last year, but turned it around - so let's hope he does the same this year.

I agree, Ray cost them the game.

Last season some were comparing Pierce to Larry Bird. If he wants to be considered in truly great company like that, he can't be missing game winning free throws like that. IMHO.

As a Bulls fan, why are Boston fans giving Rondo a pass? Isn't he supposed to be an excellent defender? All I heard in the Chicago media was how he would shut down Rose.

Pierce is heading toward the backstretch of his career. It's all downhill from here for him and Allen, and Garnett for that matter too. Good thing they won last year.

Comparing Pierce to Bird is hilarious. There isn't even a discussion to be had.

Hmmmmmm. Might have something to do with Rondo's near triple-double.

"Comparing Pierce to Bird is hilarious"

Indeed I agree with you 100%, but people were making the comparisons
last year at this time, including Bob Ryan at the Boston Globe:

In this morning’s Boston Globe, Bob Ryan says that it’s Paul Pierce, not Bird, McHale, or any other great in the 16-championship history of this franchise who takes the crown.
Every once in a while Pierce reminds us that he is the greatest pure scoring machine in Celtics history. Many old-timers bristle when you say that, citing John Havlicek, Sam Jones, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, or whomever. But it just happens to be the truth.
He can get his own shot, which is a major plus. He is an extremely proficient, highly ambidextrous, driver. He takes a lot of free throws. He is a constant 3-point threat. And he is the best fast break finisher the team has ever had. No argument.
There is an argument. I understand loving Pierce after the 41-point game 7 takeover for the ages, but a better scorer than Bird? Here are some important metrics:
- Pierce is a 44.2% FG on his career, Bird is a 49.6% FG on his career.
- Bird finished in the top 10 in points per game six times, Pierce has done it five already.
- Pierce has finished in the top 10 in ‘Player Efficiency Rating’ three times. Bird finished as #1, twice.
- When looking at their offensive production, the biggest difference is that 18% of Bird’s total offensive production came from the free throw line, while Pierce has gotten 27% of his points at the stripe. Pierce needs to get to the line to have his scoring machine working on all cylinders, but Bird didn’t.
“Paul Pierce is one of my favorite players,” said LeBron. “I always say, second to Kobe Bryant, he has some of the best footwork I’ve ever seen in a player. I love going against the best, and Paul Pierce is one of those guys.”
He’s 30 right now. If Pierce hovers around that 20-point per game mark for just over three years, he’ll surpass Bird in total of points scored. Maybe if he has a championship ring to go with those superior stats, the argument will look a lot more convincing.

And not in the game at the end. Hard to see many unders in this series. Boston will have to find a way to slow this tempo down, it is not their game.
