This is a reset of a post that was tossed up sometime last year, but worthy as this guy is a phenomenal piano player.

He's not the greatest singer, but watching his fingers play is worth the look.

Plus it gives a nice insight to just how talented Pete Townsend was when he authored this music almost 40 years ago

As I've spent the past couple years learning how to play the guitar, any time I think it's that hard, I just watch a good piano player and realize a guitar is nothing in comparsion

The guy is a really, really sharp player....Incredible dedication to make it appear that relaxed.

The series of Youtube clips from that 1982 Toronto concert are top notch. Great to hear them before Daltrey lost his ability to sing high (mid to late 90s)

As someone who has played professional keyboards for over
30 years I hope you won't mind my comments here.

He is a very marginal player, and that is being kind. His play
is rigid and sounds quantized. By that I mean it sounds like it
has been digitally adjusted by a quantizer, which adjusts notes
which are off the beat very slightly to hit the beats exactly.

I know high school aged players that are much better players,
technically, and artistically.

That being said, if he has learned these by ear, he has done a good
job of recreating the sound of the songs without sheet music.

I should add the technically his play is bad also, I can tell he
wasn't classically trained.

For example he plays flat-fingered, which means that he won't
be able to handle complex speed work with his fingers.

He also is very limited with his left hand, basically just banging out
the bass notes.

I'd like to see some of those high school kids....and not by way of argument. But rather, because I really enjoy watching sincerely talented musicians work.

Yeah... me too.

I struggled for years to learn Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on piano, it's
a challenging piece.

And, I know this local Asian girl that memorized it her senior year
in high school... though she spent something like 6 hours every day
practicing. I only mention her ethnicity because I'm impressed with how
some of the Asian's are able to instill the drive for greatness in their
children.

For rock keyboardists, Rick Wakeman is one of the
best of all time...

And who can forget Keith Emerson trashing his organ while he
solos on it...
