The Detroit Lions thanks to a dismal (unerstatement if there ever was one) 0-16 season in 2008 have to #1 selection in this Saturday's NFL Draft. Who will they select with the pick?

Crabtree is very iffy right now.

On February 21, 2009, it was reported that Michael Crabtree sustained a Jones fracture in his left foot, which would require surgery to insert a screw in his foot and would leave him unable to perform for the next six to ten weeks including the NFL combine and the Texas Tech Pro Day. Doctors found that the injury happened recently, and possibly during his training for the Combine.

Plus at 214 pounds and a height reported at 6'1 and 3/8 inches he doesn't have the prototypical size teams look for in high draft selections in a QB. I know Stafford is only 6'2" but he is a sturdy 228 lbs and has three years of bigtime college ball under his best rather than the two that Crabtree has as a sophmore eligible player coming out for the draft.

Bottom line if the Lions take Stafford most likely Seattle will roll the dice with Crabtree in the 4 spot. Other wise he will fall into the 2nd ten because of team needs after Seattle and Detroit

I am only guessing like everyone else, who knows what will hapen this weekend.

crabtree to browns after they trade away braylon.
<!-- / message -->

No need -- I can't see them trading Brady Quinn. However I can see them drafting a bigtime defensive pass rusher with the 5th overall selection (doubtful Crabtree will still be available at the 5 spot anyway). Hard to say what they can get for Quinn after his 2008 season.

I can also see the Browns dealing Edwards to Philly (desparate for a go to wideout) for their remaining #1 (21st overal) and a 4th or 5th rounder as a throw in because IMO the 21st pick alone won't get it straight up for Braylon. With Philly's pick they could get a pass rushing outside backer they need like they need air to breathe.

With Quinn and even Derek Anderson available why go after Crabtree or Sanchez anyway, Crabtree despite his out of control numbers at pass happy Tex Tech is still a gamble with the foot injury..The Browns supposedely have given Sanchez a long hard look see but he could be just a lateral move if they deal Quinn to get him.

They have two 2nd round picks that they can use to bolster their weak O line. Finally will either Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo and Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji be around for the pick they get for Edwards, either one would be a big upgrade to their pathetic pass rush.

This is a team that needs help on both sides of the ball, personally I would build a defense then hope Brady Quinn reaches his potential somehow.

Browns have a deal in place to trade Braylon to New York (giants) they will revisit it on Friday night and Saturday.

Browns are trying to get off the #5 and move back, only team looking to move up is J-ville, who will want to see the 1st 4 picks before they try to move up...

We should probably discuss in another thread, not hijack Wil

Gmen need wideout..

Big question - who will the Gmen get to replace Plaxico and his six shooter plus veteran Amani Toomer (hanging them up).

Three names come to mind, none of them cheap, Anquan Boldwin, Braylon Edwards and Ocho Cinco (Tom caughlin and Ocho should be a site on the sidelines if that were to happen). They also need a TE to back up Kevin Boss. Rumor has it the Giants like Jared Cook of South Carolina who could be a low first or high-to-middle second-round pick.

Edwards is most likely to go to the Big Apple, he has Eli Manning licking his chops thinking about Edwards returning to his monster 2007 form.

The Giants depth chart at wideout looks ominous - Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss, Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith, they have to either deal or draft a bigtime wideout.

The Giants have 10 picks to play with but none in the top 28 but have the 29th overall and a pair of 2nd rounders to deal plus 7 more lower picks including two 5th rounders..

Good Luck, wil.

PS: the thread has already gone sideways, no thanks to me, so no biggie.

If the lions draft stafford at #1 it would be a terrible mistake.

How many qb's drafted #1 have worked out lately? None. Remember david carr, tim couch, alex smith, and even jamarcus russell. all busts.

this stafford kid is a fuckin joke just like the lions. they probably want to draft him because the word "Ford" is in his last name. Get it? Ford field and ford motor company. They need to draft an offensive tackle or go straight to defense.

Just Heard that the Lions will trade away the #1 Pick.

No word who they are trading down with. :drink:

Just want to add this is a Rumor, and there is No link or story on this that I can find.

I also think Curry is a solid selection at #1. The Lions really need help all over and Curry seems to be the safest route. I could also see them going with the OT Smith and then trying for a LB at pick 20.

I would not be at all surprised to see one if not both of the QBs drop out of the top 10.

Word is that Quinn will be delt somewhere and Anderson will be in contention for the starting job since they paid him his $5 million roster bonus and then they will part ways with him next year and get someone. So he will most likely hold them over while Mangini builds the talent.

I'd lay -3000 that this rumor is full of hot air.

No one wants to trade up. There are no can't miss prospects. It's not a big drop from Stafford to Sanchez, not a big drop from Curry to any of the other DL's, and not a big drop for any of the OTs.

Only way Detroit trades down is if they scrap the "draft value" sheet.
