Is and always has been dumb IMO ( lucky to have a HOF coach & QB who won him some superbowls) , but what he has done since the end of the 2009 season is astonishing.
As the season ended he had a HOF coach, a franchise QB, a juggernaut of an offense, and a horrible defense.
According to reports I read, Shanahan refused to fire his defensive coordinator (which he should have just based on how his defense played last year) so Bowlen fired him. I always thought Shanahan was one of the best in the game and he was always coaching and scheming in games. This team lost 9 RB's had a horrid D and still remained competetive. Yes a minor collapse near the end, but no idea why you would fire the coach in this instance.
Then, Bowlen goes out and hires a coach that is going to run a totally different offense for what his team has been built for!!! I still dont get the hire. JM may go on to be a great coach in this league, but look how the other BB castoffs have faired. Plus this kid is a kid himself!
So, Shanahan gets fired for not canning the DC. JM comes in and what is the first hing he tries to do???? Trade his franchise QB!!! The offense here was more than fine and yet JM rips it apart when the defense was the problem, while Im sure at the same time alienating some players.
His whole handling of the Cutler sitaution was pathetic. They then trade one of the best young QBs in the league for Kyle freaking Orton!
They did finally upgrade the defense somewhat, but now have destroyed their offense. I just hink JM is trying to act like BB, which he is not. There is only one BB. THis has totally backfired in his face. The kid needs to find his own identity and he has not yet.
Then today, it appeared that despite bringing in 46 RB's in the off season, the broncos drafted a RB in the 1st round just so that SD couldnt draft him. This may be something you do in the 10th round of a fantasy league, not the 1st round of the NFl draft. Not that I dont like the pick, I think Moreno will be a good back, but YOUR DEFENSE IS SHIT and YOU JUST SIGNED A TON OF OTHER RB's IN THE OFFSEASON!!!
I thinkn Denver may be on a downward spiral with no end.......we may look back on this year as the year the franchise collpased.
They fired their HOF coach, traded their young franachise QB for a bum, have a divided locker room, a young cocky lying arrogant new head coach, & a stud WR facing another suspension from the league, a questionable draft so far, and still a shaky D despite the addiiton of Dawkins.
I could be wrong, but I think this coaching hire will be a bust & we will look back at how his arrogant decisions ruined a once proud franchise.
