HOME TEAM IN CAPS
All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.

Pittsburgh +1.35 over MILWAUKEE
Paul Maholm is a former first-round pick and late last season and well into the first month this year he’s showing why. Maholm has had four starts and none of them were easy, as he pitched in St. Louis against the best hitting club in the majors, in that hitter’s park in Cincinnati and then two starts at home against the Braves and Marlins. Maholm has four quality starts, he’s 3-0, he hasn’t allowed a single bomb yet, his ERA is 2.03 and the opposition has hit just .229 off him. The Brewers will respond with Dave Bush and he, too, is off to a good start. However, Bush nearly threw a no-hitter against the Phillies in his last start and that has him overvalued here. He’s always been the type of pitcher that’ll go out and throw a gem and then come back and get whacked. The Pirates have been one of this year’s liveliest pups and once again they’re taking back a nice price with a great chance to win. Play: Pittsburgh +1.35 (Risking 2 units). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Houston +1.09 over CINCINNATI
For one, the Astros love playing at this venue, as they rarely lose here and secondly, they’ll send their ace out there in Wandy Rodriguez, who will soon be called W-Rod. Rodriguez had remarkable numbers at home last season but struggled on the road and that’s the only reason he hasn’t received the recognition he deserves. He’s becoming one of the leagues most consistent and toughest pitchers and his numbers this season are second to nobody. In fact, Rodriguez has allowed one run or fewer in three of four starts. He’s allowed just 16 hits in 25 innings for a BAA of .190 and an ERA of 1.80. His WHIP of 1.04 is one of the best in the majors. Aaron Harang is also tough but he has an offense that is far less supportive than the Astros. Harang has also thrown 100 or more pitches in all four of his starts and that’s a lot of pitches this early in the year. His BAA is .262 and he could be ripe for a short outing. Any take-back with Rodriguez is worthy of some strong consideration and this one is no different. Play: Houston +1.09 (Risking 2 units).

Boston +1.00 over CLEVELAND
How can you not take the Red Sox? Until this train stops and I don’t have to lay anything, I’m not getting off. The Red Sox have now won 11 straight and over that stretch their bullpen has an ERA of 1.29. Furthermore, they absolutely own the Indians with nine wins in the past 10 games. In addition, the Indians are seeing BB’s with just 12 runs in its last six games while the Red Sox are averaging close to eight runs a game during its winning streak. Play: Boston +1.00 (Risking 2 units).

I believe Milw. has beat Pit at home like 16 in a row.

Good luck.
