So I am supposed to fly up to Silicon Valley for a final round job interview with the founder of a consulting company I would really like to get a job offer from. My current job is ok, but we have laid off 25% of the folks on my team and they have already told me I will likely get a 20% pay cut starting in June. I have been at the current job for 10 years.

So the head of my division just emailed my saying she is coming in from Denver on Tuesday and wants me to go to a client meeting with her (for a project where I have done most of the work). She is very unforgiving and laid into me for taking last friday off (for a long-planned wakeboarding trip) since we were working on this project. She is very good, but very unforgiving.

Now I am stuck between risking this new opportunity (rescheduling with the Chairman of the new place) that I really want to get or placing myself at increased risk at my current job. My wife is 4 months pregnant and I don't know what the feck to do :ohno:.....

what's my next move?

Call the Chairman of the new place and explain to him your problem...Let him know that your boss is comming in to help finish up a project that you have been the leader over, and that you really hate to leave them in that situation, and can it be rescheduled. I know it is hard to find anyone with much integrity now days, and would look at it as a Good thing.

thanks G. That's what I am thinking as well. I have gotten to know the President of the company from my earlier interview and in a couple client situations (where he consults to one side and I was consulting to the other), so I sent him a note explaining the situation and asking his advice, but he has not responded. I need to reply to my current boss soon, so I think I will just bite the bullet and call the Chairman. Thanks again for responding.
