The National Football League will reportedly move its marquee game outside the United States for the first time within the next eight years.
According to the Sunday Telegraph, the NFL has assured London officials that their city will host the Super Bowl as early as 2014. An official announcement is expected at some point in the next 12 months.

Football's title game would be held at Wembley Stadium, which has hosted two sellout regular season games thus far and will welcome the Patriots and Buccaneers for a regular season matchup next season.

Bid packages for the 2014 Super Bowl must be released by November, and a final decision on the location will be made at the following spring meeting.
London is already the site of the 2012 Summer Olympics and is attempting to secure the 2018 World Cup. The report states that the Super Bowl could bring upwards of 350 million pounds in revenue to the city.

If we tried to have the Brit Soccer championship over in the US, you can be sure the freeking hooligans would riot. Fucking NFL is too corporate now.

I think its a great move. The NFL is an international sport, so why not move it overseas? Also, have you ever been to London? AWESOME city. Been there for business and been there for the Tour De France. Those crazy Brits know how to host a sporting event. I'm all for it and I would be much more likely to go to a SB in London than a SB in fawking Florida (again!)

Mistake...All that tourist and press and corporate side revenue to hotels & hotel taxes, restaurants, etc. should be going to a US city.

I just assumed that the Tour De France was in France........unless they moved London out of England. :laugh:

NFL is not an international sport, look how that European league fared out. Hell, I remember reading the articles about the chargers game and the fans looked like they cared more about field goals and kickoffs than the actual game.

It would be a horrible move. Maybe the public can't go to the game, but many do benefit from the parties and charity events in town. You don't see the Premier League playing in the States.

This maybe true right now, but the FA have seriously been considering adding an extra "international" match into the fixture list at the end of the season to be played in the States, Hong Kong or wherever.

Having said that, the reaction by the clubs, managers, fans etc is pretty much the same as your reaction to the Superbowl being played outside the US would be...

Maniac - how would you feel if it were the European Soccer Championship, and it were played in the States? I'm pretty convinced that adding games overseas for that Almighty Dollar really hurts the level of play.

I would be against it in the same way I am against the idea of playing an extra Premier League match abroad, so I know exactly how you feel about this.

The funny thing is, the demand for tickets to the 2 Wembley matches so far has been insane, let alone if the game was actually the Superbowl - and I would probably have a much better chance of getting tickets to, and watching, a Superbowl in the States than I ever would in London...plus it would probably work out cheaper even with the flights!

Unless you plan on going, football fans should appreciate it. The NFL will only play the game there if it will maximize profits. Then they can use the profits to help provide a better product

If this is the NFL version of a "trial balloon" then it will be worthwhile. I truly think football fans will revolt in a way it will get the NFL's attention. It would never happen in the long run. Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part but I could never see this happening.
