Sportsbetting in Delaware, some thoughts

Providing this can withstand the legal challenges from professional sports teams and NCAA. If they only require two team parlays then I think this could be beatable. I'm assuming that they won't hire a sports book manager who will change the odds at the three racetracks where it would be available. The edge will be on side and totals due to weather factors and injuries. I would think they would go with a parlay card format where one would have choices to hook up any two propositions. Another interesting facet would be how much you could wager. You can wager as much as you want on lottery tickets. They may limit the individual ticket to $25 or $50 but you could tell the clerk to keep punching. Much of this could all be a moot point if they don't pay a fair price for a two team parlay. If they a pay a bad price they won't get much business. Local bookmakers will point that out and they will lose the business to the street. There are some thoughts out there that they will eventually change the law to offer straight wagering. Once they get their foot in the door it will be hard to hold back the future. The state will realize they have a cash cow on their hands and a monopoly because they are the only place on the East Coast for legal sports wagering. They can steal business from Atlantic City. They are in a unique position because they have no pro sports teams to answer to. Atlantic City blew it years ago when they had their chance to put in sportsbooks. Now that their business is suffering due to economy and competition they have no one to blame but themselves.

I want to agree that they will realize that the type of sportsbetting they are offering will not go over as well as they thought & eventually go to straight wagering as you said Jack, but, when you think about it, if they had any clue at all, they would already know what they're offering is half-azz to begin with......

They may be stupid enough to allow correlated parlays (i.e. betting on the favorite and the over, or the dog and the under).

1 - The gov has already said that he will ask the state supreme court to rule on whether this law, as written, will also allow "head-to-head" matchups, which would essentially be a single wager. No need to worry about the Parlay cards

2 - What good is trying to game the parlays if the payout are horrible anways? You would have to have some excellent, completely infallible information to beat something at -220 or whatever it would be.

I hope they have the good sense to know not to try and run it themselves like they did 30 or so years ago. Most of you are too young to remember that Delaware had sportsbetting for 1 year back then. They didn't know what they were doing as they tried to run it themselves without professional help (the mob) and they lost their a$$, bigtime. Rumor was that Vegas was laying off their bets in Delaware.

From what I am reading, it seems as if the Governor thinks single gam ebets will be legal. It's in the state Supreme courts hands right now.

The Chief Justice is a staunch(or is it stinch) conservative with a career record of siding with corporations(IE the NFL).........so that is definately not a good thing.

I expect the mighty army of New Jersey to invade Delaware at any minute. The take over will be swift and sports betting on the East coast will be run from Atlantic City.
