I just don't see Pittsburgh losing this series vs Carolina. I rarely, if ever lay juice like this, and I hate to even consider it, but it seems like the value is much greater then -185. I admit I am the furthest thing from a hockey guy so do any of you puck heads have an opinion on this one eh?

Could it be b/c of the potential emotional letdown from their nationally recognized series vs the Caps? Not sure, and really don't know how to go about breaking down NHL. Would love to hear some thought. Thanks X-Files

The Pens are the biggest team in the NHL right now. Canada loves the Pens because of Crosby. The NHL benefits if the Pens win. Pens got a ridiculous amount of calls versus Washington. I expect them to get the same calls in this series.

FWIW, goaltender Cam Ward of Carolina has yet to lose a playoff series in his NHL career.

Carolina has beaten the 1 seed and the 3 seed. Pit beat beat the 5seed and 2nd seed. Carolina has beaten the tougher teams. When Boston beat Montreal 4-0, and Carl beat NJ in 7 games , little would give a chance that Carl beat the Bruins. This team so far seems destined to reach the Cup, they stole gm 7 against NJ trailing 3-2 with 90 seconds left and won in regulation time. Then they take a fresh Boston team 7 games and win in it overtime.
Pit beat Phil in 6 and Was in 7. Both Phil and Was were not reguarded as good defensive teams. Pitts power play was good in both these series , otherwise they lose. The Pens will likely get more powerplay chances since the NHL would want Pitt in the final for better tv ratings. Pit won two games against Washington on fluke goals where they were directed off Cap defencemen into the net.
These teams played 4 times this year both teams won twice. But Carolina won the last two when both teams were on hot streaks.
This is a tough series to pick. It could go down right to the wire, game 7 to be decieded. Pitt has the better offence but Carolina has the better goalie and defence. Gonchar is hurting for Pittsburgh defence. If he,s not 100 percent , this is a huge advantage for Carl. The last two times Carl reach the semifinals, they won and went on too the Stanley Cup.Once winning the Cup and losing once to Detroit. Many of these players on this current team played then.
I don,t expect this will be a high scoring games like when Pit played Phi and Was. My lean is Carl in 7 . But the better play would be Carl +1.5 games in this series.

i have decided to stick to what i know best, and thats bases. just not worth it right now for me with my cavs future going, and how well mlb has been. i was going to play the Pens, but the opinions in this thread, and pm's with certain posters have helped me realize that this was probably not the best way to go. hopefully carolina wins so i can come back and say this is the beauty of being a poster at a gambling forum lol

thanks for all the responses

You people that say the pens will get more power plays for better TV ratings are absolutely ridiculous. The reason the penguins got more power plays in both series is bc they were in the offensive zone more. Pittsburgh had 65 more shots in goal in the series then washington.

When a team is putting pressure on another team that is on the defensive they will be more prone to getting called for penalties due to the desperation of getting the puck out of their zone.

Also the penguins power play in the playoffs thus far has been horrible I am surprised they have made it this far, I don't know what the exact numbers are but in both series they have been pretty pathetic and in playoffs hockey you usually need to capatilize on every chance you can.

Exactly. Love the Canes to win this series. Not only has Ward never lost a series, the last four series have gone 7 games, with Ward winning all of them.
