which ones typically give the best deals and times. Ive only tried a couple and it the ones that have tv commercials so i could be missing something

Im looking to fly out of the chicago area(prob milwaukee,rockford,midway) since flights are a lot cheaper than o'hare and its the same type of plane/company anyway.

I like kayak but I normally use it to find the best deal and then buy it directly from the airline (assuming that it only involves one, if it does involve more than 1 then that's a whole different animal)

why buy from the airline directly? you normally get reduced miles when you buy through different channels other than themselves directly, its also much easier to deal with things such as changing the dates etc.

in your case I would go to MDW website and find out what airlines fly /in out and then go to their sites and figure out the best price/flights

I love Priceline... there are forums, my favorite betterbidding.com , that help you bid more wisely! good luck

I second Priceline.

I find out on the internet what a hotel wants for a night, then bid about 1/3 on priceline and it gets accepted.

for hotels yeah, thats a good one, for flights there is NO way that I would bid on anything without knowing what the routing/layovers/stopovers etc are going to be

I like to use Priceline, but they screwed me on my last flight. When you bid they say it will be no more than one stop. However, if you hit the "Help" button by the one stop, it says there can be one stop AND a connection. I had to fly from San Diego to L.A., and then from L.A. to Dallas, and then on to Ft. Lauderdale. But I never knew there would be two stops until I paid for it.

I feel this is really deceiving since WHY would you click on the "HELP" if it's telling you you only have one stop?

Besides that, I've gotten some unbelievable deals bidding. I've gotten a full size car in Florida for $10 a day. I actually paid more in taxes than for a car. When I had to fly down to Florida at the last minute to attend my BF's funeral, I used their "Vacation Package", and paid almost the same thing I would have paid for round trip air, but I got a hotel room at a 3.5 * hotel, Crowne Plaza, and a full size car rental both for 6 days.

I had stayed at the Crowne Plaza on my previous trip and got tha by bidding $70 a night when they were asking $148 a night.

southwest uses midway out of chicago and no travel sites quote southwest. they are usually the cheapest if you are flying to a destination they serve. air tran also has good fares. bunch of travel sites out there;
google travel forums and see what you get.
