Steeler Harrison’s pit bull attacks his young son

Associated Press

May 22, 2009, 1:22PM

PITTSBURGH — A pit bull owned by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has reportedly attacked the player’s young son, but police, hospital and team officials are releasing little information. “We’re aware of the situation, but it’s a personal matter for James,” Burt Lauten, spokesman for the Super Bowl champions told The Associated Press. “We won’t be commenting further.” An unidentified neighbor told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette one of the star player’s three dogs got loose Thursday and attacked the boy, James III. His age was not immediately available. A Franklin Park police officer warned neighbors “to keep our children inside because (Mr. Harrison’s) dog had bit somebody,” the neighbor told the newspaper. The dog was removed by an animal control agency. A Franklin Park police spokeswoman on Friday said police are not commenting because the incident remains under investigation. Neighbors told the newspaper that a second person also was hurt and that Harrison’s son was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. A hospital spokesman said the family does not want information released. Harrison lives about 15 miles north of the city. In 2006, then-Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was cited by police in Pine Township, another suburb north of Pittsburgh, after two of his dogs got loose and killed a miniature horse on a nearby farm. Northern Regional Police said then that Porter’s dogs were licensed in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., but not in Allegheny County. Harrison is the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and scored on a 100-yard interception return in the team’s 27-23 victory over Arizona in Super Bowl XLIII. He made headlines for declining to join the Steelers on a White House visit Thursday, though he passed up the same opportunity after the Steelers beat Seattle in Super bowl XL in 2006

While I feel sorry for the kid (it's not his fault his parents are dumb fucks) I don't feel sorry for pitbull owners.

Almost daily I see some dirt bag walking his pit bull with his pants around his ankels with his had turned 45 or 90 degrees (not sure which guy is the bigger douche, maybe the tilt is a better measure). To complete that the dog or dogs usually have the classic fake diamond stud collar.

You know, maybe I shouldn't blame the dog. If you had to live with some of these fuck-sticks you might try to kill them too.

Safe to say this guy was not his class valedictorian.

check out why he went to Kent ST when you get time. If it isn't listed anywhere, I will get the exact details and post them. My cousin graduated with him, what a great football player and dumb guy.

James Harrison deserves absolutely none of our respect. Harrison might be one of the most dynamic defensive players in the league. Harrison might have one of the most spectacular Super Bowl plays in history. How does Harrison have the right to refuse to go to the White House to see President Obama after the Steelers Super Bowl XVIII victory?

It is tradition that athletic teams visit the White House after winning their respective Championships. This has been a tradition for over 40 years. These teams have the privilege to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States. Players need to realize what an incredible opportunity they have to meet the President.

Harrison said “This is how I feel – if you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl. As far as I’m concerned he [President Obama] would have invited Arizona if they had won.”

Harrison is absolutely right. President Obama would have definitely invited the Arizona Cardinals if they won. If Arizona won they would be the deserving candidates of going to the White House. This rule is the same even if the Detroit Lions won (yeah right).

Harrison needs to wake up and smell the coffee. He is no better than T.O. with his off-the-field antics. Any one from a die-hard football fan to the casual football fan should be embarrassed in Harrison’s words.
I have heard some stupid things come out of some the NFL players’ mouths. T.O said “I am leaving America’s team to go to North America’s team.” Yeah because Dallas is now is South America. T.O. have you ever had a Geography class? In elementary school people learn about the continents. T.O has said and done some stupid things (I think we can all agree), but Harrison’s words have to be the most unintelligent I have ever heard.

I normally do not get too offended or upset over ones’ comments, but this time was an extreme exception. I find Harrison’s quote to be in the slap in the face you, me, the entire Pittsburgh Steelers organization, the NFL, the President or the United States, and our entire nation. Harrison’s quote was disrespectful, immature, and in poor taste.

The NFL and each organization need to work on the players verbal skills. I do not mind a player making a fool of them self, or calling out another team which motivates them. I do mind when a player blatantly disrespects our nation and our nation’s leader. Harrison at the least should be fined for his actions, but I am for a suspension for the defending Super Bowl champ and 2008-2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

CUE the parade of pitbull owners that only want to talk about how sweet & loving their pitbull is "and they're really not dangerous at all!"

Gimme a break!

When are people going to realize that these are really dangerous animals. Some breeds just shouldn't be kept in the home

These dogs are not pets they are like Chinese fighting fish. They are here for only one thing and that is to fight. All Michael Vick was trying to do was harness these pit bulls vicious mentalities and use it in a professional environment and save them from a short lived life in the animal shelter and eventual death. Much like Cus D'Amato tried to do with Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson.

Now we know, he didn't want to go to the White House because he couldn't bring his pup to play with "Bo".

Thats got to be one of the most idiotic thing I have ever read...Pits can be raised in loving homes and be good dogs. Most dogs are viscous because of the owner. They keep them tied up to a stick and the dog never has a chance to socialize. Mike vick is a sick individual...he got what he deserved.

Another naive poster I see. A dog will do what a dog will do. A pit bull is a violent attack dog unlike say a golden retriever. If you put a golden retriever in the same home conditions that you described it wouldn't attack its owner or young children because that breed of dog is not an attack dog.

It is real annoying to hear people blame the owners of a pit bull when it attacks people saying that it is not the dogs fault and that they were raised in a bad home and environment. But when a little 16 year old black kid that lives in the ghetto kills or robs somebody the same people are ready to throw the book at him without even giving his no win shitty upbringing a second thought.

The only naïve and annoying person here is you. Pitbulls ARE NOT "attack dogs." they were bred for fighting. Other dogs. Huge difference. In fact, if you actually knew anything about the topic you'd know that most respected breeders cull any dogs that show even the slightest agression towards people. Not to say that excuses them from using them to fight, it does show that they're bred to be far from attack dogs.
Most times any dog attacks it is because of fear or territory. The way they're brought up has 99.9% to do with how they act and react in certain situations. Based on the article I think its safe to say that his dogs weren't part of the family and he intentionally made them the way they are. Golden retrievers, etc would all react the same way. To think otherwise is fucking stupid. The reason they aren't thought of as "attack dogs" is because they aren't intimidating. To think their natural instincts are any different than any other breed really shows your ignorance. Studies have shown that a well raised pitbull is actually a better family pet than any other breed. That's a fact.
Next time don't try to sound like an expert on a subject you know nothing about.

You can talk out of your ass all you want. My family raised German Shepherd's (a real watchdog by the way) and various kinds of birds so I have first hand experience on raising pets. I am not getting my knowledge from an episode of the Dog Whisperer or having a little lapdog as a pet. Yes a pit-bull can be a good pet and they are for the most part a good looking dog. However over the years in their breeding there is a chemical imbalance in them that gets passed down. Much like how chemical imbalances and disease traits get passed down in humans.
