Why is so much made of Mike Vick when at best he's a mediocre NFL QB?

think Vick at his best (before all this mess) was better than an avg NFL qb...

no team wanted to face him...what he lacked in accuracy, he more than made up for in speed, creativity and mobility....

of that list above, i would consider Vick (prior to this mess) better than Hasselback , Cutler, Romo, Ryan, Delhomme, Rivers, and Garrad...

now that being said, some of those guys may eventually prove to be better than he was, but taking what those guys give me right now, and what Vick gave you BEFORE his arrest, i would take him as my starter....

Is a career 75.7 QBR better than average?

That's easy to look at when all you doing is picking up a paper and looking at stats. Ask the defensive lines and linebackers, they will tell you they prefer to face anybody but Vick. A defensive coach can't defend what Vick was bringing to the game. Plus Vick brought excitement that only 1 or 2 people in the league could generate. He was a QB that could go the distance from 70 or 80 yards out which most RB can't do except for Peterson and Reggie Bush. Damn! I miss that excitement.

The one thing he does well is run in the open field - rare for a QB, but also not something you generally want your QB doing. He should have gone slash early on, putting a real QB under center.

You should stop posting here forever if you think a defense would rather face Manning, Brady, Rivers, Brees or a few others over Vick.

LOL at Romo... You have to be kidding right? Vick atleast made an NFC Championship game and had to beat Green Bay in Green Bay to get there.

Is 7.3 yards per rush better than average?

While it is true he could really only do one thing well, he did it better than anyone else in history. Most teams in the NFL would have been able to move the ball more efficiently if they had Vick when he was at his best. The question is how much did he slip in his years away from the game. There really isn't a long history of athletes going away at the top and coming back a full three years later. If I was a GM I would consider him outside the top half of starting QBs. That means almost half the teams in the league should consider signing him

I think it's more due to the fact of his style of play, opposed to his race. He's by far the most elusive quarterback the NFL has ever had. Therefore he made a name by himself.

take off hasselbeck. he is no good anymore, seahawks looking to dump him for awhile. I'd add Rodgers to the list. I'd take off Delhomme and Palmer. Palmer is too injury prone and I don't see him doing much again. And take off Garrard.

So yea I'd take 12 over Vick. The rest are mediocre like Vick, except they can't run.

and he had nobody to throw to either. they always led the league in drops. you put Vick with a roddy white duo and turner in the backfield, you do as good as the falcons last year.
