Philadelphia +1.20 over LOS ANGELES (1<SUP>st</SUP> 5 innings)
Bastardo was 3-2 with a 1.89 ERA in 11 games between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He struck out 11 in six shutout innings in Triple-A in his last minor-league outing and certainly legitimized his promotion with his performance Tuesday against the Padres. Bastardo went six full, allowed just four hits, one walk, one run and struck out five. Yeah, it was the Padres but the kid looked comfortable, poised, focused, and confident and like he knew he belonged. Man, he really does have good stuff. The Phillies won the first game of this series and subsequently lost the next two but call it bad luck, as they should be ahead 3-0 in the series or at the very worse 2-1. What I do know is that the Dodgers are scratching and clawing for every run they get these days and in fact, have scored two runs or less in seven of its last 10 games. Throw out the Friday’s bizarre win and it would be eight times in 10 games. The Phillies are 14-5 against southpaws and will see one they’re very familiar with here in Randy Wolf. Wolf is having a great year, numbers wise, but a close looks reveals he could be losing steam. Over his last three starts he’s been hit hard in two of them, allowing five runs at home to the Snakes and four runs at home to the Angels. He had a good game against the Cubbies at Wrigley (big deal) sandwiched between those two. Another thing I find very concerning about Wolf is his groundball/fly-ball ratio, which is one of the leagues worst. In fact, he’s recorded 83 groundball outs and 140 fly-ball outs and when that occurs it means you’re getting very fortunate. The Phillies have had the lead in every game of the series going to the sixth and thus, I’ll play it that way here. Play: Philadelphia +1.20 (Risking 2 units). <o></o>

Colorado +1.23 over ST. LOUIS
The Cardinals are sinking fast and it’s not surprising, as this team is made up of players picked up off the scrap heap and over the course of a 162-games, teams will always end up where they belong. The Cardinals team batting average has dipped dramatically over the last three weeks and they’re now batting just .256. They’ve lost six of its last nine to San Fran, Cinci and these Rockies. Joel Pineiro is another scrap yard player that has put up some decent numbers this season but has been hit pretty hard in four of his last five starts. He surrendered four runs in four innings in his last start against the Giants and prior to that he surrendered eight hits and three runs to the anemic Royals. Against Pitt and Cinci he allowed five and four runs respectively. Pineiro has had an extremely soft schedule over the last five weeks and yet he still has a BAA of .291. In 65 innings, Pineiro has a lousy 25 k’s. Laying juice with very ordinary pitchers playing for slumping teams is bad strategy and that’s precisely the situation here. The Rockies are seeing BB’s right now and have scored 10 runs or more in three straight games. They can’t wait to get to the park and it’s unlikely that the stiff they’ll see here will slow them down. Oh, and Ubaldo Jiminez is a quality pitcher that has been very sharp over the last month but does not have the wins to show for it. That all changes here. Play: Colorado +1.23 (Risking 2 units).
