Yankees Battle BoSox

Another chapter in one of pro sports’ greatest rivalries, the Yankees and BoSox, is currently being written as the two are battling it out for the division lead.

Currently, online sportsbooks have Boston listed at +120 to win the AL East title this year while the New York Yankees are listed at +110.

In this series, the Red Sox drew first blood, smoking the Yanks 7-0 in front of the Fenway faithful in the opener last night, covering as a -134 favorite, while the game stayed Under the Total of 9.

The sports betting public were pleased, as they backed the BoSox in Game 1. SPORTSBTTING.com reported a little over 70% of the action that came in on the game was Boston money.

- Game 2 of the three-game set goes tonight, with the hometown Red Sox once again favored, this time at -142 while the Yankees are +122 underdogs and the books have the Total set at 11.

Boston holds a slight edge vs. the Bronx Bombers over the last 20 home games, going 11-9 straight up, but currently they are on a nice five-game winning streak at Fenway Park vs. the Pinstripers.

It’s Tim Wakefield’s turn in Boston’s rotation. The knuckleballer is 7-3 SU this season and the Red Sox are 15-5 SU in his last 20 home games.
The Over/Under numbers are 12 Overs and 8 Unders in that stretch.

Boston hasn’t been nearly as profitable in Wakefield’s last 14 home starts going head-to-head with the Yankees however, going only 6-8 SU.

The Yanks were shellacked last night and they have to be a little nervous tonight, as they send Chien-Ming Wang to the mound. He’s 0-3 SU this season with an astronomical ERA of 14.46. Please note there have been 9 Overs and only 1 Under in his last 10 starts.

In Wang’s past 13 games against the BoSox, the Yanks are actually profitable however, going 7-6 SU and 5-1 SU in his last six games but it is a different story when Wang is at Fenway, where New York is 3-4 SU.

The early betting action at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com has money coming in on Wakefield and the Red So (63%) and tipping to the “Over” (67%).

- Game 3 goes on Thursday, with Boston’s Brad Penny dueling with the Yanks’ CC Sabathia.

Although Penny’s ERA is pretty high at 5.85, he is 5-2 this season and the Red Sox are 4-1 in his last five home starts.

Playing the majority of his career in the NL thus far, Penny hasn’t faced the Yankees much but his teams are 3-0 the last three times he has.

Sabathia, the Yankees’ prized offseason acquisition, is starting to round into form with a record of 5-3 and an ERA of 3.56.

Sabathia’s last six road starts have resulted in a 4-2 record SU.

Dating back to his days with the Cleveland Indians, Sabathia has struggled when facing Boston, going 2-7 SU; he is 1-3 SU on the road against the Red Sox.

Good luck with your plays and enjoy another classic Red Sox-Yankees battle.
