On the last day of OTAs, the Texans agreed to contracts with veteran quarterback Rex Grossman and rookie free safety Troy Nolan.
If Grossman passes his physical, as expected, he'll sign a one-year contract Friday worth $620,000 — the minimum for a seven-year veteran.
Grossman, who turns 29 in August, was a first-round draft choice by the Chicago Bears in 2003. After spending six seasons with the Bears, they elected not to re-sign him, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Texans already have three veterans — Matt Schaub, Dan Orlovsky and Alex Brink. They aren't planning to take four quarterbacks to training camp, which could be bad news for Brink, a seventh-round pick in 2008.
Nolan, 6-2, 207, played at Arizona State. He's competing for a spot on the team with starter Eugene Wilson and backup Brandon Harrison.
Nolan will be among the rookies and first-year players who'll participate in a three-day minicamp that begins Monday. Thirty veterans are going to work out in their Reliant Stadium weight room during the minicamp, but coach Gary Kubiak isn't requiring them to be on the practice field.
