I WILL BE GOING TO LAS VEGAS NEXT WEEK TO PLAY IN A HOLD-EM TOURNEY AT THE RIO. The tourney pays seats 1-7. First place is 25 thousand OR 15 thousand and a seat in the WSOP. If I would happen to go on a heater and hit some flops--and possibly win --What should I do-- What would you guys do? Take the 25k or 15k and THE SEAT???? Interesting Quandry--:grandmaisgood luck to all--

i guess it depends on your financial state. personally, I'd take the $15K + entry without hesitation.

It's only a once in a lifetime opportunity if don't have the funds. And if you come across a $25k windfall, you can just put it into a savings account and buy a seat with that money any other time in your life. Further, if a seat at the WS was truly worth it, you would have already been playing it every year since the time you turned 21

Taking the cash, then deciding what to do with it after the spotlight and adrenaline has faded is always the best bet

Taking home $7 000 after winning a $25 000 prize would leave me feeling sick for a day or two

What I mean by once in a lifetime sir is that the seat would be FREE____ I also posed this question not just for myself-but to get other opinions:grandmais

I wouldnt worry about the second choices yet you first got to concentrate and play your ass off to make the money in the first tournament and then after you do hit the money, you will be siked up and take the seat and probaly get in some cash games while you are there

i would tuck some money away to make sure i go home a winner anyway

I would look at what nets you the most. If you pay taxes on the seat, then take the cash. If you have the cash, you can always buy your own seat yourself if you think you are good enough to do it.

My wife always enjoys out visiys to LV. Loves to shop and hang at the pool--These trips are always winners for us weather I make any dough or not. Love to gamble ofcourse but I have found that my best long term investment is in my wifes happiness first--compromise--I gamble a bit-she enjoys her days at the shops--and at night we eat well and drink late into the morning!!! winning any money is just a bonus:grandmais

i have won my share of smaller tournys and fair well in the side action. discipline and cathching some cards are the key--As has been seen in the last couple of wsop tourneys--even a rookie can win it:grandmais

what TomG was saying is that you can get the 10K in cash and decide for yourself on your own time if you want to play this year or next year or not at all etc. Since they are paying you the 10K or writing the check to the WSOP it is the same but you can control your own decision. You could always do the once in a lifetime thing next year.

What if your boss asked you the same question?

For your annual salary, you can get $50 k plus a WSOP seat or $60 k cash ... which would you take?

Unless the seat is tax deductible, you always take the cash.

Then you go home and ask yourself, if you want the WSOP seat or if you'ld like to trade in your old car for a new one.

1. Win the tourney first...no easy task, I'm sure

2. Take the 25K

3. You can always enter the WSOP for 10 K at a later date

I have played in the WSOP. It's a big deal, until you get eliminated and are out 10K. I fortunately had a sponsor for entry and all expenses. So nothing out of my pocket per se for the opportunity. There are not many pidgeons at the WSOP tables. Best of luck, whatever you decide!
